Don't feel like the Lone Ranger...

There's a 35 MPH speed limit on my street and more often than not I need to get somewhere FAST and that speed limit doesn't make my job any easier.

My car is more than capable of hitting 60-70 mph on my street safely.

35 MPH is just silly. Maybe when all the children who are growing up on my street get old enough to vote they'll raise the limit to something reasonable.

As far as I'm concerned, they can remove the PM feature altogether.

If you can't conduct your business through other means (Skype, email,
Instant Messenger, etc.) then you don't have a business IMO.

Wags. Some of us don't give away our Skype contact until after the personal relationship has been established.

And even then, some people abuse Skype, which has made me protect Skype even more urgently.

I will exchange 5-6 pm's here, before even considering to allow someone to contact me on Skype.

If you drop a quick not in a thread, you can ask the person you want to speak with for another method to contact them.

Maybe I should try the Bill method... Half the time I get adds from the Warrior Forum on skype, it's a newbie... Here's a classic example.

          Newbie: Hi Caleb
Caleb: Hello There, Can I help you?
          Newbie: How are you?
Caleb: Fine - I'm really busy was there something I can help you with?
Newbie: Look, I'm only [x] years old. Can you please help me make money
Caleb: Do you have a budget for coaching
Newbie: I'll pay you once I start making money
Caleb: Sorry, I'm really busy, and I get too many requests, that it is impossible to help people.
          Newbie: BUT PLEASE...
          Caleb: I am very busy.
          Newbie is Calling...
          Missed Call
          Newbie is Calling...
          Missed Call
Caleb: Please stop calling me, it makes my cell ring.
Newbie: C'mon just give me a chance..
          Unsubscribed to Newbie

And that is why you will see my skype id go, I hate all these calls to my cell phone via Skype, from people on the forum, who want free mentoring. I'd rather know what there after, before allowing them to personally contact me...

For y'all wondering.. Bill's skype name is Agent 00109109709172047104271074027140972147010427012741 0274012720174..

I suck at encrypting. So good luck decrypting

Yuppers, me too. I know how you get slammed and spammed if you let just anyone know your identity.

Someday I may even let you know my Skype ID, Bill, if you're a good boy. :p

If it was on the internet it must be true.

Now he's going to have to be a good boy twice as long.

It allows some anonymity, which can be good. OTHERWISE, you get the problems caleb is talking about.

I just typed out this 4 paragraph pm
That's why there's a limit - too many new members thinking the PM was there for them to contact anyone and everyone - and it resulted in "PM spam" of promotions from people we don't know.

Now - if you were responding to someone who posted "PM me" - that person may not be someone you want to respond to Most of us don't do that and sellers are supposed to provide an alternate contact.

    Hi Larry,

I understand your frustration, but keep in mind that you have been a member since November of 2009. You could have made 1 POST PER WEEK, and have had more than 50 posts. As of tomorrow it will be 14 months, or about 60 weeks! You could have even taken off 10 weeks if 1 post per week was too brisk.

If a person can't even contribute once a week, then how can they come in here complaining about the rules?

This isn't a personal attack, but rather a general question.

    All the best,
    Michael

I did not know of this rule, but what is the reasoning? Just to avoid pm SPAM? If so, I guess I can understand that.

Join the War Room and you'll be able to send PMs right away -- and that's the least of the benefits of joining.

We had a big problem with people signing up and immediately PMing huge groups of people. Someone created software specifically to make that easy.

Yes. Really. Not just for here, as far as I know. I believe it works with any vBulletin installation.

Putting in the limit drastically reduced that. It helped with other things, too, but that was enough for me to think it was a good rule change.

Yep, and when you allow people to PM right away, you get people that PM large groups of people for fun.

That's why you see all of these forums going to this new model
