Now that we're hooked, it's time to turn the screws.

To-day Calgary. Where next?

    Ken,

If they're really losing money on the bandwidth, how else are they supposed to continue to provide the service? If you want to feel what "turning the screws" is like, let them go out of business and do without your connection.

Or moderate your bandwidth usage to remain under the cap. If enough people refuse to do either, they'll do what a lot of providers around the world have done: Put limits on each account and simply shut you off when you reach those limits.

Paul, I find it difficult to believe they are losing money.
Just because it costs them millions to provide services it does
not mean they don't make more millions than they payout.

The corporate poverty plea no longer has any meaning.
The outright lies abound on all fronts.

Check out the Shaw Site and you will see they already have
varying levels of use and charges for overuse.

      Internet

In the article I referred to there is a line which reads,

"Medd said the options for these customers are to pay the charges,
buy add-on data bundles, or upgrade packages."

In my opinion the entire exercise is to fatten the corporate
wallet by frighting people into buying unnecessary upgrades.

    Ken,

Note that I said "if." Also note that you said "opinion." Nothing has changed in this thread so far.

    Got data?

Duly noted Paul. "Opinion" was intentional.

IF people are crashing my bandwidth cause they love to (illegally) download movies/music/games ALL DAY (NIGHT) LONG, then, I support 2 options:

1 - They get their asses in court
2 - They pay WAY more then I do

    Simple.

What I can't accept is my neighbors downloading all day long, affecting my work connection.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Being charged extra for going over your monthly data allowance is nothing new. It's been happening here in Australia for as long as I can remember.

Mike, check out the link in message #4. You will see they already
charge for going over your data limit.

Sorry I missed that particular link.

Those prices are unbelievable! I am on a plan of 500GB per month for AU$59.95 with no extra charges. That mob wants US$97 a month for 175GB a month. They are ripping people of with those prices.
