If you have got an e-book reader, would you want it smaller/bigger and why?

    Hi,

I've got the Kindle of the 3rd generation and I'd like it to be a bit bigger. Often times I read PDF files on it that weren't optimized for the Kindle and the fonts become really small. I don't want to have to scroll around on the page.

However I found out that if I set a higher contrast the text becomes easier to read.

I feel the same as tashi. I would have prefered smaller even 10 years ago because my vision was FAR better and the smaller ones give more info quicker. But that decade did me in. 8-(

What are you guys talking about?! I said I'd like it to be BIGGER, not smaller and this isn't even about file size. I'm very confused now!

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I NOW feel as YOU DO! I USED to prefer it smaller because I could see better and smaller would have been better.

I almost brought up that this wasn't about filesize. For filesize, ANY honest person would say smaller is better.

With DISPLAY size, it is based on NEED! SMALLER is better unless you need to display to a group and/or someone can't see well, in which case BIGGER is better.

And as for memory, disk space, CPU speed, etc? That TOO depends on need. As the average filesize has gotten larger, drives and memory have had to keepup. If filesize were a LOT smaller, the disk and memory could be likewise reduced.

The Kindle is just about perfect, if you have ebooks that are formatted for it. However, for viewing just PDFs, I prefer a one of the "pads" - like the iPad. It's much easier to manipulate a pdf using the touch screen of the ipad.

Oooh - interesting thread. I've been looking for a ebook reader recently, and I'm not sure whether to go for the Kindle or the Sony. Do any warriors have any thoughts on what I should get?

Good luck! At least NOW, they have nearly every obvious feature, between all those on the 1-3 tiers. I guess the 2 I haven't seen are the touch motion features like zoom, page, etc...(They are done via special areas, or keys) and loading apps(Some have a few apps loaded, but I don't think ANY really allow adding new ones), but those would push them innto the tablet market. Maybe we could call them net-tablets! I don't know if ANY have ALL the features though.

I dont like either the big or small, I still want to feel a page in my finger, jot down notes with a pen and enjoy it even when i saw the book (what i call a book) upon a table. the thing is that all those new devices really upset me, what that for, i want to give my future children the book that their father used to read with all the history on it, not just another machine to play with. There is anything more beautiful than get older and have a look at your bookcase, pick one up and remember the time when you read it. A book goes with you all your life long, unlike an e-book

You can have the best of both worlds. I too like keeping a collection of favorite books. However it becomes not only tedious, but also very costly to purchase and keep every book you need.

There are several coding languages that I constantly need to read up on, but I definitely don't want a collection of those books littering up my office. Not to mention that the physical version of most of these books are upward of $50. And ebooks can many times be much less than half that. And before I had a reader, I'd have a huge stack of those books laying around in the bathroom (a true multitasker) and my wife hated it. Now I just keep an iPad in there.
