So, the forums for IMers and other stay at home types are kind of like having an office. A great place to learn your business better and socialize a little bit, in the form of forum posts, which are kind of like a memo world.

What we need now is a bar, like cops have. A chatroom where a bunch of IMers and Offliners can get together and socialize, network, and talk shop in real time.

Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like a great idea to me but I guess that would mean that I would spend even more time here and get nothing done at all anymore.

But maybe I should go out and socialize more often to find some true offliners

Uh........apparently you've never heard of TMN.com. Well that's a shame 'cause you just missed my informative interview with Caliban Darklock tonight. Well maybe you'll catch me next time I'm on his show.

I will have to warn you though - the online bars, even this one, are all BYOB. Sorry about that luck.

WHAT???...I want my grog served to me by a saucy wench!

Seriously though..you need to be careful in Internet bars, some of them can be pretty rough and tumble.
Even after years of scrappin' I once got knocked cold by a 130 lb computer programmer, in one of these online bars.

...course someone was swingin him by his ankles at the time...

Well, I have switched to a polyphasic sleep cycle so I have a lot more time to get stuff done and still end up needing a break, hence I hit the forums for an hour or so then back to my projects. But tonight, I wanted to chat with someone in real time about a new direction I am taking and see if they had any tips, without having to post it on the forum, and wait for replies.

But I do understand how it could serve as a distraction. Maybe it have some sort of timer lockout programmed like a real bar with last call

And no, I actually haven't heard of TMN, I tried to check it out but it needed a sponsor or something. I would love to hear about it, whether it's a professional tool or a social tool.

    Bar?

Down the hall and thru the brown, dingy door on the left with the single bare lightbulb overhead thats been out since.....oh, about three years now.

Ask for Ken. He even serves those fancy, shmancy brightly colored drinks with the little umbrella....

It is a good idea but i have to admit that things like this "bar" will only keep you away from the important things in life.

What important things? I am looking for something to do when my wife is asleep, and I have worked myself into zombie mode but can't stop thinking about things like writing articles for client a and reworking that e-mail campaign for client b.

Mainly I just want someplace to talk to people in real time about IM and Consulting who are actually involved in it when I'm up at 3:30 in the morning.

Like this: I want to position myself as an expert at creating websites that produce additional INCOME for small businesses. Not just generate customers, but make the extra money. Problem is, every keyword and keyphrase that I researched last night in the particular avenue had 0 global monthly searches. So I wanted to go into this "bar" and while I was taking a break from the ACTUAL work of keyword research, bounce some ideas around and get immediate answers and suggestions.

Like I said, I do understand this could be a huge distraction to many, but the ones who are distracted enough to not get work done on their current venture are likely looking for an excuse not to take action. I am looking for an excuse to get back to taking action when I have stalled, and also increase my network as it is always good to have colleagues who you have actually exchanged pleasantries with rather than just getting down to brass tacks.

Just a thought though. I was just toying around with the idea while working last night and thought it might be fun and helpful.

    Hey Rassler,

I tend to think of places like WF as that bar... the place where homeworkers gather to socialize...

@John, I do think of this place as more an office, it's mostly work talk, and it's not immediate feedback, more like exchanging office memos. What I was looking for was real time conversation.

@HeySal, I found the site, went there but it was quiet. It's an internet radio station with a chat applet, right?

It looks like it might be what I am looking for, but realize it would be late that I would be going there, usually between 3:30 and 5:00 am central, my sleep cycle is 30 minutes at 2, 6, 10, 2, 6, 10. I schedule down time between 6 and 10 pm to spend with my wife and 2 and 6 am because it seems like a good time to unwind, the rest of the time is scheduled for work, with 10 minute breaks when I hit a wall. I need something to do in those wee hours of the morning to pass the time and still be mildly constructive without focusing TOO much on actual work tasks.

There is a worldwide audience that hangs out there and sometimes you can find folks chating even at those hours. You could always agree in advance with others to meet them there at a specific time, as well. Or Skype them...

Big Red - (got a name we can call you? Ya wanna chat, you should give us something to call you, eh?).

During the afternoons and early evening there are hour long shows - people will either do an informational hour on something or will have guests and interview them -- later at night it's just a bunch of us hanging out and chatting back and forth, some business stuff, some just general chatter. The general chatter starts around 9:00 pm Pacific usually right after the last show. You can communicate via mic and video or just type. Usually there's typing going on between some people while someone else is yacking on mic after the shows are over...during the shows people generally only type comments to the speakers.

And that's the way it is.
