Hi, I`m Patrick and I will be perfectly honest to say that I am pretty much brand, spank`n new to the whole blog concept.

I don`t really know much about blogs to be honest and in particular bloggers themselves.

My question to all of you guys and gals who blog (or run other types of businesses whatever they may be), if you`re not working on your own blog, what do you enjoy reading out there on the blogosphere yourselves?

Do you read only in your specific chosen topic, or do you like to broaden yourselves and see what else is out there?

I read a few tech/gadget type blogs cause I'm interesting in that type of thing even though I don't buy alot of it anymore.

I follow a few camping/survival type blogs as well.

I have a whole slew of people I know who blog about their families and what's going on in their life.

I just read blogs about my niche.
It is rare that I venture off that path.

I tend to read about anything that strikes my interest at the time that I'm online. I usually stick to new technologies, weapons and tactics, the news, and the WF. If you are ever bored or need a break this place has some great threads that will keep you entertained for hours.

I read blogs about all kinds of subjects, but mainly in my main (blogging) niches, which include IM, blogging, tech, and music.

Thanks for your replies so far.

I feel kind of overwhelmed by blogging. There`s just seems so much to do and if you even try to glimpse at the big picture its quite shocking I think.

I`ve been trying extremely hard these last few days to think of a blog topic which will really interest me. I just don`t feel I could write forever and forever on just one topic, i think I would just get so bored. The problem is that I don`t have a true "passion" I guess, something that i`m REALLY hooked on specifically.

I`ve been reading posts on problogger and a couple of other sites that REALLY stress the importance of chosing one topic and strictly sticking with that. I just think though if I tried that I would give up before my blog to be could start to grow into something with traffic.

I could break my interests into 3 main categories I guess - computers, anime and Japan in general (very broad I know).

I know a lot of people who have an interest in at least 2 of the topics I mentioned so I was pondering over perhaps incorporating all 3 into one, focusing more on the computer aspect (internet software, hardware, games, etc) and using Anime and Japan as a "oh, this looks interesting" as an extra read to keep people on my site a bit longer once they have read up on what they originally wanted to search for.

What are your thoughts on this? Blog suicide perhaps? Be as critical as you want. If you`ve ever wanted to scream "NOOB!" louder than ever before, go right ahead ...(except for the first person who posts the next comment after this)

        You're thinking too much.

        A blog (usually) isn't a big picture - it's a little picture.

If you have a job do you insist that everything you do at work must totally engage your interest - do you refuse to do anything routine or boring? Do you keep the job?

There's a WSO running on blogging right now that is one of the best products I've seen for a long time. At $27 it might be enough to get you focused and get you started. (not my product - but it's a good one!)

For me I don`t want to treat blogging as a job. If I can find and maintain interest which is not based off money, then there should always be motivation.

If I start a little broad, then perhaps as time goes on it will naturally narrow down as I find myself writing more and more on one particular area and less on others. Kind of like natural selection I guess.

And YES, I`m thinking too much.

And thanks for the advice Kay, I will look into it
