Off Topic: Prayers Needed

OFF TOPIC

Prayers are needed. Joplin, MO (my hometown) was hit by an F4 tornado. A lot of people were injured and a lot of help is needed. Please keep Joplin, MO in your prayers. If you want to donate, you can send donations to Red Cross. Thank you for your support.

Not only prayers but material and financial support is the best thing to do for those victims. Indeed we don't know what will happen next. We have to be prepared.

Thank you...I watched a video and seen some pictures on facebook...one of the hospitals was almost demolished...the high school was demolished...plus a lot of other businesses were demolished...my mom said that at least 15+ people were killed and several more were severely injured. She said any help needs to be addressed to the Local Red Cross or Salvation Army in Joplin, MO.

  I saw those images yesterday on the news and sat thinking about the people affected.
  
  I have what I call the "Katrina effect" and I think many people will know what I mean. When you've seen these disasters and the crushed homes on TV, you feel sorry about it but you don't really get it.
  
  When you've been through it - you know the crushed homes are crushed dreams and damaged lives and your heart goes out to those affected. You understand the trauma doesn't disappear when the news anchors move to another new topic - it takes years to recover and some people never do.
  
  The tornadoes this year are going to cause thousands of people to live with a "tornado effect" the rest of their lives. When they see a natural disaster, they'll truly understand what those people are going through.
  
  My thoughts and prayers have been with you since I saw the first pictures yesterday.

I have to agree Mother Nature is angry.........so many tunnels this year and not just the small 'bounce down' for a min. here / there....Joplin residents and the others are in my prayers (that is becoming quite a long list!!)

Kay, you are so right about looking as 'lives and dreams' destroyed...

When I was around 10 and living in Ark. we had a town-devastating tornado such as this one. The worse thing is how very very quickly you go from just having a bad stormy night to a killer tornado -- I was grabbed out of bed and barely escaped my windows imploding as we left the room.
The elem. I attended across the street from home was demolished and we only had Red Cross (long before FEMA days).....at least with things like the hurricanes you have a bit of warning they are coming.

Toll on this one is 116 and they are still searching - so hope that number doesn't grow much more. Bless the residents and rescue workers...........and hope the storms take a break it stills looks pretty nasty

That's the truth.

Where I grew up in Michigan we had a lot of tornadoes, too. I fell asleep on my couch once and the noise woke me up. I looked out the window and saw one almost down in the field next to us. I had just time to cover my head with the pillow and roll of the couch onto the floor as the windows shattered. The thing touched down and bounced. Had it been bigger or if it hadn't have bounced I'm thinking that would have been the last thing I ever saw. After I moved from MI, it took me years before I could be comfortable living anywhere there wasn't a basement.

When I was back at my dads a couple of summers ago there were sirens the day I got there and the day before I left. There were satellite shots of the clouds showing where they were on TV. All I could think was how awesome it was to have that kind of a warning now. That warning might not be enough to save everyone, but you can bet it saved a hell of a lot of people.

Another worrisome part of this is that it may not be over. The waters in the Gulf of Mexico are very warm, so any time we get that energy coming north, it can cause major weather problems.
