Going through uni I depended on energy drinks a lot and tried every one I could find. Since then I only drink them when I am working late/overnight and it is hot so I don't want coffee.

I always used to like Rockstar but I'm a fan of fruity tastes... most of the fruity flavors taste horrible though! In the end I found my total favorite, Nos Fruit Punch. It tastes like lightly carbonated fruit punch and is delicious!

I tried Red Bull once. Close to the most disgusting thing I ever put in my mouth.
My energy drink of choice would be Yerba Matte tea either iced or hot.
If I just want to maintain the energy I already have, then Green tea, again either iced or hot.

Not just that, but almost all those energy drinks(red bull, monster etc) and beverages like coke, diet coke, pepsi, fanta contain aspartame which is very dangerous for your health.

Avoid those beverages if you want to stay healthy!

I hate those drinks. They taste bad and all they do is add caffeine.

I can take caffeine pills easier and cheaper (and I've used those for years as I don't drink coffee).

My concern about energy drinks is that I see so many young kids drinking them today. High doses of caffeine for pre-teens and teens is not a good nutritional choice.

I know kids who use those drinks to stay awake because they are sleeping enough and I don't think long term results will be good.

Thom,same here.One taste was more than enough.

Kay,a lot of them add other things than jusy caffiene. If it was just that I wouldn't consider them dangerous.
Another problem with them is that the bars and restaraunts now make mixed drinks with them,like a Red Bull Shooter.....what a great thing for your system giving it a stimulant and a depressant at the same time.. :rolleyes:

You're spot on Kim - a lot of those things are just tantamount to toxic waste. Some of those industries need to be closed down but as long as they have people they can con into drinking stuff that is poison to their systems, they will keep producing the stuff.

I see that a lot at the casino. Have written about it, too. This is popular on college campuses. If there's anything worse than a passed out drunk - it's a wide awake drunk!

I know there are other things - I had to taste the drinks but I didn't fully consume a single one of them as they tasted awful.

I dont understand how people digest these drinks. MY friends usually drink redbulls, stings and various types of other energy drinks they think that these drinks boost their energy level but I think the are wrong. These drinks taste so bad that sometimes it gets me choking. I think its the taste which gives you energy not the drink.

Well the same can be said about coffee, i believe its just an acquired taste. Coffee is viewed by some as disgusting while many love it and cant start their day without it. Is it so wrong to view energy drinks in the same light?

Just coffee with cream and splenda. The taste, cost, and overall convenience can't be beat. A little milk gives the brain some protein to think. I like it in the morning or when brainstorming.

I work nightshift and ive been drinking a can of energy drink everynight....well I knew I had to kick the habit and happy to say Ive had NONE all last week and this week.

Ive also quit drinking coke after being addicted to it for 20+ years... (i quit a couple years ago)

Ive cut down on the junk food.

I drink a lot more water and have started drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice (great stuff!)

There are quite a few people at my workplace who have 2 litre bottles of coke/pepsi/tango almost surgically attached it seems... lol

Well if you don't want an energy drink but would like a kick in the head right away, try a black eye. Black coffee with a shot (or two depending on how tough you are ) of espresso.

However, if you want to get energy and don't crash try this:

- a banana (for potassium, good for muscles)
- some sweet nuts - macadamia or the sort (seeds are food for brain and have a high caloric content, ass well as oils that help)
- vitamin C (or orange juice but a lot of people don't like the taste with the rest of the ingredients)
- some ginseng
- black tea leaves (they contain caffeine but in a more subtle and less withdrawly? than coffee)
- honey (natures sugar, unrefined from queen bee is the best)
- grapes or strawberries ( they add a special tang! to the mix, plus texture and color)
- water or milk
- ice

Blend it and enjoy.

Another thing you can do is freeze everything (try not using the banana in this case and obviously don't use milk) and eat it like a Popsicle during the day or evening as a snack.

Energy drinks can help when you need that push sometimes, but I don't recommend regular intake of it though. It has side effects that are bad for your body. I also don't advise taking them with alcohol since energy drinks are stimulants and alcohol is a depressant. You can't imagine the contrasting effects that both of these have on your system.
