Joining the Rent is Too Damn High Party

It's official... I'm joining.

For the last few months my husband and I have been staying with his family. He was out of work as was I. He finally found a good, steady job and I have been doing article writing. Well, we currently have $400 saved up after paying all of our normal bills and now we have been asked to move. Obviously, $400 is going to get us nowhere. We are hoping for a 2 bedroom place to split rent with a friend but it seems impossible to find anywhere that doesn't charge $1000+/month and want $3000 to move in! He only makes about $10.10/hr and since I am only starting IM, my profit is still rather low.

All I have to say about all this is... the rent is too damn high! As it is I will probably have to give up my kitties because everywhere that allows cats costs more per month and wants an additional deposit. Seriously...

Quote from housinghope.org...

"What makes housing affordable? Those working in the housing field generally use the guideline that an individual or family should pay no more than 30% of its income for housing and utilities costs. Using that standard, a minimum wage earner in Snohomish County can afford to pay monthly rent of no more than $445, and someone making the average hourly wage of $14.38 could pay up to $748. However, the average rent charged in our area for a two-bedroom unit is $942 (Out of Reach 2007-2008; National Low Income Housing Coalition). The numbers simply don't add up for too many."

I personally like their ideas, but I really think they need to get a new spokesman. The way Jimmy McMillan looks, I just don't trust him in the least.

Yeah, if you look at his videos and such he's just an old man that thinks he's a thug rapper. Positive message be-damned, I don't want someone like him running my country.

Don't need to watch the videos, I got to hear him during the debates for governor.
What really sucked was every time he'd talk one of my friends would say "see Thom, I told you you should run for office"

Wouldn't be a bad idea - the dem party, the repub party, the tea party, and the pot party. Which party would YOU attend if given a choice? LOL.

If I had MY way, every CITIZEN could vote for say six people in a priority manner, so we could have maybe ten parties, and STILL not be able to cause a shift! In one senator race a couple years back, a number of people created fake accounts, and websites to try to imitate a talk show host that was fighting to get one guy to be elected. That talk show host actually had to call attention to it, because they other guys tried to use a third person to force the REAL desired candidate to lose. It really shouldn't be that easy. BTW a friend of mine is planning on voting for a certain set of candidates even though, historically, the chances of a win are near ZERO. I wish he could have his way without throwing away his vote.

Why Willie's Teapot Party, of course
              And to sorta quote Willie,
"The more I understand about politics, the more I realize I'm a drummer".
Of course I substituted drummer for guitar player like Willie originally said.

Would be nice to have something to beat on that you can't get arrested for. Maybe I should start playing.

You mean as in move fast for fun? Uh..no. Not gonna happen. I move fast so rarely that it surprises people that I am capable of doing so when I need to.

So you prefer the way all our politicians look, because they're so trustworthy?

Personally, I'd like to see more (some) politicians that looked like McMillian, with long hair, goatees, tattoos, etc, since this is what our population looks like and politicians should represent all society...I'm tired of the used-car salesman haircuts and sports coats.

Mcmillian isn't qualified to be a politician, but I have heard him and he seems to be a decent guy. A lot better guy than the nut job that's passing around beastiality porn in NY, but is well-groomed.

I never have a problem with the way they look, in fact I agree with you. I'd like to see more 'real' people looking politicians. Of course if they where real people they wouldn't be politicians which is what we need (real people in politics).
My problem is they all seem to have one topic that they get tunnel vision on (like the rent is to high) and are totally clueless on other issues.
Back in the late 90's I joined the now defunct M.R.P. (Marijuana Reform Party) . The candidate for governor was a long hair from NYC. In the debate and interview I saw him in all he could say was "You got to legalize pot, man". I was embarrassed to say I belonged to the party he represented

Amanda - It sounds like you are the coast out there - stuff is way expensive in that area. Living in the populated areas of the Washington coast isn't going to be conducive to being broke. I'm thinking that there isn't any damned petition or revolution strong enough that is going to bring down housing prices. When I moved into a home in WA, I was even expected to put down a $300 deposit just for utilities. That was on top of everything else and it was only that cheap because the house was small and in an area that was cheap in the first place. I was on my own so it wasn't easy, but I was able to manage - barely.

Maybe your husband should look for a job in an area that isn't one of the top in the nation for cost of living.
