Is it REALLY possible to manipulate the weather?

I don't know WHO is given the power to make the decision with what happens where... but it seems some boys have toys well beyond their years. The resources this guy put together seem credible, but who knows? If anything, he really did his homework...

Yes it is possible and has been done since at least 1958. The technology now is advanced far beyond from where it once was even considered to be a weapon of war between the US and then Soviet Union. Weather manipulation for war was banned by a UN resolution in Geneva in 1977. China used weather manipulation techniques to stop rain during the 2008 Olympics.

The problem is the law of unintended consequences.

I can't remember the details now but I asked my son (a weather guy) years ago why we didn't try to lesson the force of hurricanes before they hit land.

He told me about attempts by the U.S. years ago to seed the clouds in hurricane while it was over water. The theory was it would release moisture (rain) and weaken the storm. Result was - a category 1-2 fast moving hurricane (potential for minimal damage) turned into a slow moving hurricane plus major rain event that flooded large areas of Mexico.

Of course humans can manipulate weather. Cloud seeding works, although it's far from 100% effective. There's also cloud whitening that may be used to deflect some of the Sun's heat to offset global warming.

We learned during the Great Depression that striping the great plains of natural grasses helped prolong and intensify the drought, causing states like Oklahoma to blow away with the wind creating the Dust Bowl.

Earthquakes and tornadoes too? I shudder to think so, considering the horrific recent events. To Jordan's question, regarding WHO makes the decisions with what happens where... anyone? I'm sure it must be heavily controlled and regulated. Right?

Great thread, very interesting. JLP (Jet Propulsion Laboratories) in Pasadena, CA have for decades been rumored to be behind weather manipulation, including earthquakes. Watch the Zeitgeist movies and the red thread starts becoming visible throughout all of it.

yeah i recall a debate between a couple of my friends, which they got from a video game, that weather, hurricanes, thunder \ lightning storms, even simplistic rain could be used as a weapon. and technology being furthered every day, well... it's a definite possibility.

In 2005 there was legislation in the US to make weather manipulation illegal.
I can't remember the stipulations - I think that something like cloud seeding for drought and fire mitigation was still okay, but for other uses it isn't.

Anyway - the fact that legislation was enacted as an enforcement against weather control, I would assume indicates that the ability exists. Fairy tales are not legislated.

I don't believe this point! It seems unfeasible! If it does work, we humans would not suffer from those terrible meteorological disasters!

I wouldn't be surprised. Nature = physical world. And I'm pretty sure our scientists have been messing with the physical world for quite some time. I think it's a lot more complicated than we think it is, but technology = key. One day, or today even.. folk like us will never know.

MagicShovels - Scientists have just really pieced together how ecosytems work just at the point that they are generally so depleted that we are at risk - globally. We are in the midst of the 6th global extinction - It is human caused. They are trying to restore enough of the ecosystems to give us a chance to survive. We're also over-carrying capacity of human and grazing populations, and that's not making it easy.

Now if you look at humans as part of the ecosystems they inhabit (which we did not do, we took a role of outside superiority) - and these ecosystems are dying because of the depletion by the dominant boime (um..., it means we've tipped the balance of the dominant species survival. The result is not going to be pretty. It's too late to stop the chain reaction but we may be able to mitigate it. Somewhat. A little bit.

Nah, the HARRP nonsense is made up by the 2012 muppets. Clever though, very lucrative.

I wouldn't take a bet on either side of that issue right now.

Right, so the loonies have taken over the asylum and are destroying us with weather manipulations? Come on.

By the way, I did a bit of research and there are 38 volcanoes in Bolivia but none in the vicinity of Puma Punku.

Puma Punku is Thousands of feet above sea level and there is nothing there besides grass and wasteland.

Is there any way that Granite can be pulverized and re-formed like concrete?
This sh.t wasn/t carved or cut with laser, it must have somehow been molded.
