Back To The MOUNTAINS!

I have probably spent less than 8 hours total on the computer
since about the middle of May (and way less than that on this forum!)

Took a good look at my health (social security disability for 11 years)
and my wife's declining (now) health for the last year or so. Part of her health condition is the radiation treatment she will start soon!

Factor in what I have watched KimW go through in the last couple of years, as well as knowing that many others have serious medical "opportunities", including Seasoned with his cardiac "adventures" and
then I made some choices.

A job offer from the government popped up from an application I had
filed months and months ago----permanent/full-time/not physically demanding and WITH FULL BENEFITS!

Changing my social security from disabled to regular payments allows me to
keep a great percentage of that income. With my salary our income will almost triple! And did I mention that this comes WITH FULL BENEFITS?

Cost of relocating here will take just about another month to recoup but
then I will still have time to continue to build my online $$$$$.

Life starting to look GOOD HERE FOLKS!!!!!!!

Oh yea---did I mention this comes WITH FULL BENEFITS?

So, HeySal, what are the chances I will see you here for winter carnival?

    Excellent news.
    I know when I went back to work off of disability I still collected benefits for quite a few months while working. It was almost as hard to get them to stop sending me money as it was to get it in the first place
    I forget what they called it, but it's set up to protect you while you see if you are capable of working. Then your claim is still open for 3 years after the benefits stop. I just got that letter in Jan. saying if my back prevented me from working I would need to open a new claim. Best letter I ever received from the govt.

      Best part of this is that I am (again!) taking care of my
      families needs! Knowing that when they pop up that
      medical bill in the thousands! that only a few hundred will
      fly out of our checking account!

      Just this medical coverage would be over $1500 per month
      if we could get it! Now? Group policy that is automatic acceptance
      and almost instant coverage! Big Big Big weight off the worry-center of my brain!

      My full coverage on SS is just a very few months away so while I
      will lose a bit of $$$ for now it will just come roaring back on my next
      birthday. Yea!

      Negative part is no more mid afternoon naps! So off to beddie-bye I

        That's what I missed the most also
        I don't have a family to support now, but I was just happy and proud to be supporting myself. Especially after two doctors and S.S. told me I was done.
        In fact S.S. thought I was so bad that they sent me my first check the month after I applied for benefits. A year after I was on disability they sent me a letter and form saying I had to have a doctor re-certify me. I called them up and when the case worker looked at my file she apologized and said never mind we will never ask you again.

    Idaho? GORDON - THAT'S AWESOME. I still want to get back there - couldn't do it this time, but probably will be up there in the next 2 years - I'm going to have a damned good time where I'm going til then. ....

    Now - Winter Festival? Are you going to Valley County/McCall area? You and I might end up being neighbors in a few years if that's the case.

    Talk to me guy - I LOVE that state.

    AND - we WILL have to get together at the Festival no matter what.

      Yep...living in Donnelly and working in McCall.

      2.2 square miles of Payette National Forest within reach with a population density only slightly more than Silver Springs!

      The view out our living room window is "No Business Mountain" and who can't love that name!

        Seriously? I would kill to be there, Gordon. I almost got to come up this time - missed it by a hair. Valley county is about my favorite place on earth - even worth the winter. Yes - we'll definitely be neighbors within a few years. I'll give ya a holler before I go up that way - and we will have lunch. Anyhow - the setting for the book I'm writing is the old Farm to Market road area.

        If you go up toward Burgdorf and Warren there's a little spot I like to go to hunt corundum (sapphire). Paddy Flats, too - but not sure if that's still open territory.

        Jeez Gordon. I am thrilled for you. Pretty excited that I'll actually know someone there when I finally get up there. The closest people I know up there are in Cascade.

        I'm excited about NV - but it's not my final goal destination. We'll be seeing ya.

          Haven't had a chance to get up close to Warren.

          This is what Secesh Summit looked like on June 15 when they
          finally got a snowplow up there. Just like all mountain areas in
          in the country that are over 6400 foot elevation or so, but now that it is home it becomes very special!


          All of that backcountry is
          so damned attractive on maps! And yet so little
          time to get out there.

          Have been to Paddy Flat/Kennally Creek area a while
          back---recently logged a bit but otherwise still wide open!

          Lunch sounds great as long as it is outside and not in
          a crowded tourist trap! I'll do my best to powder and diaper this
          area for you until "then"

            Wow - they got hammered to hell and back this winter didn't they? LMAO. Ah well - if you get sick of it just drive down the backside of the hill (Council, Weiser) and slip on down to the Owyhee Reservoir for the day. It's desert so you'll want to at least wade in some water when you get there. Take about twice the water you think you'll need for the trip. Nice day trip for rockhounds. Once that stuff melts off - let me know and I'll give ya the directions to Ruby Meadows -- of course, if you're with the forest service you probably have a map to it right there. Those Peaks on the banks of the Cascade reservoir have a few crystals, too.

            Not worried - they have some excellent deli's up there.

    Just last week we had some heavy snow in the High Country and it caused a few problems...Hikers sent off following trails in the AM and by the afternoon, snow had covered the trails and many of them couldn't find their way back.

    Meanwhile, on this side of the Divide, (just a few miles away as the crow flies) we were having warm temps...

      Where there's 13ers, there's snow late into the summer on top. I used to like to go up to Alice behind St. Mary's glacier and climb to the different lakes - the one on top had ice on it til late August. It snowed on the 4th of July up in Empire where I lived. I froze my rear off the first year I lived up there. My friend from MI that used to visit me got all thrilled over walking on snow wearing a tee shirt and shorts this time of year.

          53? Wow. I didn't realize that. The only one near me was Evans - and I drove up that one. That water behind Mary's is awesome, too. Never worried about Jiardia up there. Cold and snowy tasting.

          People came from all over the world to look at the natural filter water system in Empire. That was by far the best water I ever had in my life. That filter was made of layers of rock, sand, etc. and the water was mineralized yet clean as heck except for about two weeks a year during spring run off - you had to boil it then, but other than that, we had HEALTHY live water. It sure makes a difference in how you feel. This stuff in CA is toxic. I never know whose pharms I'm drinking.
