Hi all,

I'm planning on buying a second hand BMW 5 series, 3.0 Diesel, the car I'm looking at is 2005 and has low mileage,

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever owned one.. I should be posting this to a car forum but never mind lol.

I'm looking to spend around £8000, for some reason this car makes me feel more of a business man and looks good too.

BMW are renowned for their build quality and reliability. I think you've made a great choice.

BMWs tend to be more practical than Jaguars too. That's not saying anything against Jaguars. They just go after different markets.

Now that Jaguar is made by Ford, they have lost a bit of the quality. Even still, I've always found Beamers to be better than Jaguar at every level. They're just as stylish, you can get a sportier model with a BMW and it has the prestige. I'd stick with the BMW and good luck in your search. You said you found one, well, the owner should have the book that came with the car. They used to come with a book that you got stamped at the dealership every time you got the oil changed or a repair done. This was to show that you only used the certified dealership, which costs more, but also makes the car keep it's value. Hopefully the owner has the book. Another bonus of buying a BMW from a single owner.

Don't know where you get your info but 1) Ford does not own Jaguar anymore, they sold them to TaTa. 2) Ford completely turned that company around (just like they did Aston Martin) and IMPROVED everything from fit/finish, quality, reliability etc. So again, where do you get your thought they lost quality? We owned quite a few, last one being an XJR.

BTW every car comes with that "book" so what does that have to do with a bmw owner? My Ford truck has that "book".

I suspect sunfyre is not from the UK like us lot so let's not jump down his throat too quickly.

Here is a little list of world famous classic British car manufacturers for you.

        Bentley - German
        Rolls Royce - German
        Lotus - Malaysian
        MG - Chinese
        Jaguar - Indian
        TVR - Russian

        Hope that helps.

I'm not from the UK, I'm from Florida lol. TVR was sold to some businessmen here in FL, then I believe sold back to Nikolay.

I am in love with BMWs! I have a 335xi 2007 and it is a really good car. I would definitely suggest doing with a beamer.

You'll get a great comfortable, quiet and reliable ride. Go for it if you do a lot of miles.
