The entity, The fog and CHUD.

CHUD was the only horror film that scared me and kept me awake. I watched it when I was just a kid. I got it out on video a few years later to see why it scared me and I couldn't believe it did. I thought it was rubbish, Then a couple years ago I bought it on DVD and watched it again and now I think it's a great film, and the music in it is what I think really gives it its edge.

the beginning just made me laugh funny how she just happened to stop right next to the sewer, then when the thing pulled her in, the way the music cut on and the lid slammed down, come on...how can you not find that hysterical?

House of 1,000 Corpses comes to mind.
If you get the dvd, just put in in and don't do anything. About 5 min's later you'll know why
I liked the Devils Rejects also.
Tonight I'm watching The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and 2001 Maniacs is next in queue.
I don't have the best taste in movies though, I mean heck I'm a huge Zombie movie fan

I couldn't really say.

I'm a horror movie buff from way back.
In fact here's a site I'm doing with a friend.
Welcome to Ghoul TV
Actually, it's his show.
He was on TV on and off in N.E. Ohio for about 20 years.

There are so many ways to appreciate horror flicks that it's hard to choose a favorite.
However, I'm a classics fan.
Frankenstein
The Bride of Frankenstein
Dracula
The Wolfman
etc.

So, when it comes to the classics, although I love them all, I'd have to say
The Bride of Frankentsein.
Neck-in-neck with it is King Kong.

Now, moving on...

I hate the "slasher" flicks.
A guy in a hockey mask going around hacking people up does nothing for me.
Freddie Kruger could have been a great one. To be included with the classics.
but they screwed it up.

Now, if you're talking about just plain scary, I'd have to put The Exorcist at the top of the list.
(Just a side note here to show how times have changed. When the original Frankenstein came out people literally ran from theaters screaming, and some were carried out after feinting.)

13 Ghosts is a great one.
The original and the re-make.

The Changling is very good.

The Shining

Can't speak for most of the ones already listed as I haven't seen them.
But, I do want to see Insidious.
It looks very promising.

I'm not really a horror movie fan as I see enough horror in the news,
but I'm a closet fan of the Evil Dead movies. Actually, I'll watch just
about any movie with Bruce Campbell in it.

Yep the Swedish one. It was dubbed in English though.
The way it was described on netflix. Didn't make it sound interesting.
But one reviewer gave a great synopsis so I thought was worth a watch.

It really depends on the type of horror movie you like. Personally, zombie movies are my favorite, so of course I liked the new Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Resident Evil 1 and 2. I also liked Silent Hill as a video game adaptation. The Grudge creeped me out and had some pretty good suspense within. I thought The Others was one of the best horror plots I'd ever seen and I highly recommend. (It has Nicole Kidman if you've never heard of it and want to IMDB it).

This is the first I ever even heard of Insidious.

I loved the Phantasm series and as much as I hate slasher movies, I love Clive Barkers, Hellraiser series. I realize that's not really slasher but there is one hella gore in them.

I really liked some of the classics - The Exorcist, The Omen, Poltergeist, the Shining. Dean Koontz's Phantoms turned out to be a pretty good flick - better than I expected. Both The Others and the Sixth Sense were great horror movies.

There are a lot of books I've read that I hope become movies someday - but the books always seem to be a little better than the films. You just can't replace on film the horror your imagination is capable of.

  Yep - that's the way I like em. The Others, Sixth Sense, and the Hell Raiser series are all excellent for what is known in my circle as a good old fashioned "mind "f**k". While I wouldn't call Inception a horror flick, it definitely qualified as a MF.
  
  Saw was also one of that type but it was too slasher instead of para-normal or sci fi for me. I don't do those or anything underwater. A friend of mine was watching the Abyss and had to talk me into watching the end of it (I came in about 20 minutes from the end) - had to almost tell me the ending to get me to do it.

The original Texas Chainsaw and Dawn of the Dead gave me the creeps for ever. Every time I am in an apartment store waiting for the elevator and it opens with a flood of people scambling out...I am back to that scene in Dawn of the Dead.
