    Incidentally, I believe he's from somewhere around Portlaoise right in the centre of Ireland, which is on the very outskirts of O Faolain (Phelan) "country"...so Tim could well be his long-lost American cousin.

      My sister went to Ireland and I think she visited O Faolain, or O Phelan. One of those places. The history is fascinating. I've been checking out Ancestry.com and it is very interesting to see my roots both in Ireland and the US. I have direct lines dating back to the early 1600s in the US! Amazing.

        You might be interested to know that your surname (the original name, of which yours in one af several anglicised version) is actually one of the oldest family names in Ireland. IIRC, the family were most noted as leaders of the Deise, a tribe that arrived in Ireland as long ago as 300 AD. They later played an important part in the final defeat of the Vikings in Ireland, before succumbing to the Norman invasion little more than a century later.

        However, you'll be very glad to hear they weren't wiped out altogether, as, otherwise, you wouldn't actually exist, and I would be a madman talking to a ficticious person.
