Keyword research do or not do

I am in Canada. A great keyword IS available as a .ca but .com .net, .org are taken. Do I take the .ca and build a site or do I keep looking for a .com .net .org and use a stop word/letter? If I put "my" in front of the keyword (or something like that) to get a .com .net .org is that better than using and registering the .ca?

If I have an indexed website already that is not related to the keyword or is partially related should I optimize the new keyword and post on that existing domain.

Example: symptomsforlymesdisease.com/symptomsforheartburn

The "symptomsfor" being in the domain and the post or do I have to stick with "heartburn" information?

    I know this was posted in the off-topic but I'll give my two cents (or loons). It all depends on what you plan to do with that keyword. If you are using it in relation to affiliate marketing either as a hub or a domain for an offer or campaign, then you have to foresee that it will be a Canada centric type of campaign, otherwise you could go for the more widespread. Basically if your dying to get the keyword then go for the .ca, otherwise get a more broad scope keyword for the other easily identifiable ones.

      What do you mean by more widespread or broad? What about a partial domain name like symptomsforlymesdisease.com/symptomsforheartdisease

    it depends on you on what will you do on that keyword there are many ways to promote your keyword.
