I am working on my next money making idea and am hoping to gather some information from the wine lovers here.

Please help me by answering the following:

1. Do you normally drink wine by itself or with food/cheese/crackers?
2. Are you good at pairing wine and cheese?
3. When shopping for cheese, would you find it helpful if the cheese had a label indicating which wine it best pairs with?

Thanks in advance to everyone that responds.

Bit of a wine fan, I tend to pair wine to the main course I'm having, never really to cheese, that deserves port

I live in an area where there are many wineries. I LOVE wine! I have made several trips to the Sonoma Valley in Cali and enjoyed many wine tasting tours.

Although there are many people who enjoy wine with cheese, there are others who drink it by itself, with a meal and after dinner.

    1. Do you normally drink wine by itself or with food/cheese/crackers? Usually with food. Sometimes with cheese and crackers if we have guests.

    2. Are you good at pairing wine and cheese? No. I use the internet or the wine shop owner for help.

    3. When shopping for cheese, would you find it helpful if the cheese had a label indicating which wine it best pairs with? Yes.

You lucked out and got a few answers here.

I'd bet you'll get more and better answers, from people in your target market, by posting your questions in wine forums, etc.

I do not know of any wine forums. Do you?

        Thanks

I have wine by itself or witha meal most often but sometimes just with cheese.

I am OK with pairing, not really an expert at it though.

It might prove to be helpful to have a guide on the cheese, if the label could provide help with both wines labelled by the grape as well as some of the other ways of labelling wines.

    Normally with food.

I think that (other than perhaps at "formal wine-tastings?) the "cheese and wine" idea is a bit 1970's, or 1980's or something? Maybe it varies from country to country, though.

    No.

No, but many places where I occasionally buy a bottle of wine do provide information on what foods it goes with, and I do find those helpful/interesting.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity, which country are you from? I am targeting the U.S. market, particularly the north east.

I do usually do the cheese and wine thing unless I am having the wine with a meal. I suck at pairing. I typically ask the guy at our local wine shop what kind of cheese I should get.

He can be very helpful when he's not busy being condescending.

I, for one, would appreciate a label on the cheese.

    1. I drink wine mostly with food but when I have guests over we do the wine and cheese thing.
    2. I am not very good at pairing them so I rely on the Internet or the experts at the wine depot
    3. I would find it very helpful if the cheese had a label on it indicating which wine it best pairs with. I would probably have wine and cheese more often if that were the case

    Hope this helps you.

Occasionally, when in a rather pretentious mood (which happens more often than I'd like to admit...) I'll pair wine with cheese and tuck into Food Network for the evening.
Typically, however, I pair the wine with whatever is handy (Cheetos come to mind...)
    and get my drunk on.

Am I good at pairing wine and cheese? I have no idea. I grab a wine, I grab a cheese.
I have no idea if I'm doing it wrong, nor do I care. Wine, good. Cheese, good.

Would I prefer a label? No. Absolutely not. I'm tired of being spoon fed by the masses. I'll take a shot on my own. Discovery through experimentation adds spice to life.

    1. Do you normally drink wine by itself or with food/cheese/crackers?...YES
    2. Are you good at pairing wine and cheese?...Yes. I grab any bottle of wine, then I pair it with whatever cheese is in the fridge.
    3. When shopping for cheese, would you find it helpful if the cheese had a label indicating which wine it best pairs with?...NO. I'm more interested in which wines pair with each other.

I drink Shiraz and regularly have a few blocks of mild cheddar with it.

I don't know anything about pairing. I guess if it tastes good I've paired well though.. and it takes good.

      Labels would be interesting!
