What did you think of the inauguration speech?

I'm feeling very proud to be an American right now. Yes, a lot of the inauguration was blown way out of proportion (case in point - headline on CNN this morning was "Obamas having private coffee with Bush Family" - yawn. Or what the Obamas had for dinner last night).

But overall it was a very moving experience. What did you think about it?

It was okay. It was a speech. Yawn.

I am not interested in rehearsed speeches. I am interested in action.

We'll see how his first 100 days go.

I did not vote for him - but I absolutely believe that he's the right man for this time. I truly hope that he's a highly successful President. And that he can keep us as United as we are today. And even though I didn't vote for him, I won't mind one bit being proven wrong.

And yes I thought that his speech was excellent.

      I thought it was cool...

I wasn't really expecting anything groundbreaking.

I'm more amazed with his calmness...

      On another note...

The most disappointing thing was that George Bush got booed...

      That was tacky!

          Oh yeah!

          They booed him...

They even sang the song by Steam-Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Them Goodbye.

          It was awful!

I understood the question just fine! No need to clear that up for me.

I've never been a Bush supporter personally. But, I do appreciate tact and class.

For anyone willing to be that disrespectful towards our ex-president shows a lack of many things in my opinion.

Considering the millions who are still working on convicting that murdering con artist, a bit of disrespect is restrained. NOBODY can demand respect - why do you suppose he didn't earn it - or are you afraid to tell me because of the new surveillance and HS?

Obama? Whatever. It scares me to see how people are treating him as a messiah. It's like they are in a trance when they see him. It gives me chills - and so does his bill S2433.

Not enough was restrained... It makes no sense to heckle our ex-president on his way out. It's low class and immature... It just is!

As far as him being a murdering con artist... I refuse to get involved in the type of discussion that follows that claim... no comment!

Respect can be demanded. Evidently, getting people to follow that demand is a totally different story.

Why do I suppose he didn't earn it? Maybe he did--But, SO WHAT! He's gone now. He screwed up in the eyes of many.

I didn't notice that. That was not a good thing.

        As for the inauguration speach;

I think it was great. So was most of the inauguration event.

I think this hope for change in the US means more to many of us europeans than you US citizens may understand.

I made a point out of being home from work today in time to watch it. The beginning of the ceremony touched me, and I must admit that my eyes got a little bit wet.

For some years now I think many europeans have lost much of the respect they once had for the US.

What we've just vitnessed may be the start of a process that my bring back some of that respect.

        I hope so!

        Good luck!

I took the day off from work so I could watch it LIVE so I would not miss a beat. I truly believe he is going to be one of our great presidents and I am SO thankful to see this day. I love to tell this story: the last time my mother voted, she voted for George Wallace. For those who don't know, he was the governor of Alabama in the 1960's who stood in the doorway of a school to keep black kids OUT. She registered and voted for Barack Obama. I get goose bumps every time I tell that. How's that for a shift in consciousness??? I so proud of America this day that I keep getting tears in my eyes when I think of how far we've come and how far we are now going to go. The speech had some very good points and I hung onto every word.

There is no comparison to our fumbling bumbling former president, george w, who has to be the worst speechmaker I have ever seen, bar none. Barack Obama stays cool and calm always and shows such CONFIDENCE that it translates to the public feeling very good about the election results.

A solid speech, but it's not the man's words that have me excited. It's his doing things like appointing a Nobel Prize winning physicist to be Secretary of Energy. I feel, really for the first time in my life, that the best and the brightest are truly in charge of this nation.

this was a crossroads election -- either we continued down the same path toward irrelevance or we begin to create a new America. I hope -- and believe -- that today was Day 1 of that new America.

As for the Bush booing -- I expect that was a relatively small number of people doing that. Although I have little regard for the man's term in office, he deserves a respectful send off. I believe the vast majority of people there gave him just that.

Are you guys nuts?! Booing Bush was tacky? Showed a lack of good taste?

No kidding. You mean like the millions of innocent Iraqi citizens who lost their lives for no good reason other than being in the wrong place (their own home) at the wrong time (during a war started by G.W. Bush)? I would imagine they would say that what Bush did to them and their loved ones was in bad taste, showed a lack of class.

Booing that man is the LEAST he should've expected! I'm surprised nobody threw shoes at the tyrant. G.W. Bush deserves something a lot different from a simple lack of class and good taste. What's wrong with you people?! Have you lost your sense? Or are you still reeling under Obama's Hope-nosis?

If someone wants to be shown respect, they must show respect first.

Sometimes innocent people get hurt when you're in a physical pursuit of a greater good. And if you don't think that we were in the pursuit of a greater good, then maybe you should do a little bit of historical research, and ask the Kurds if they were better off. The Kurdish genocide was no historical secret. Yet some people Carry on like they're some kind of historical retards.

I'm ever hopeful for this president. Because you can tell that he knows his history. And though I don't agree on most democrat policies. It amazes me at the number of people who prefer to keep their heads buried in the sand and still consider GW Bush to be a great president.

Exactly what is this "greater good" of which you speak? If YOU had any sense of history, you'd know that the Middle East has been in a religious war for the past thousand years. The U.S. running rampant through Iraq and Afghanistan with unrestrained military and Blackwater agents will do absolutely nothing to change the beliefs of the locals. Soon as we pull out, everything will disolve right back into the quagmire it always has been. There will always be power struggles between the sects and innocents will be tortured and killed with or without Saddam Hussein.

Just because the world is rid of that man does not mean there is not another ready to take his place.

Would you consider the lives lost on 9/11 to be innocent people killed in the pursuit of a greater good? That's how the terrorists might see it.

I guess those innocent Iraqis deaths mean little to you because, what the hell, you didn't know them, you're not related to them, so why should you care? Why do you even care about the Kurds who were poisoned?

You may change your mind when it's your own children who are slaughtered.

And knock off the name calling. I'm not a historical retard.

The Kurds that were gassed to death by the thousands in their own home - men, women, and children. We took a pro-active stance against a man that had already proven to us that he could - and DID use massive weapons against even his own people.

Yep, got rid of Saddam - then proceeded to kill over a million of his citizens AFTER we got rid of the murderer. Makes sense, and it's okay for us to mass murder because we're AMERICANS. The fact that those innocent people weren't involved in 9/11 is no big deal. They aren't us so lets commit the same crime that we hung a man for and then slap ourselves on the back over how noble and extraordinary we are.

If anything - I believe that Obama intends to do his damnedest to stop the genocide our troops have been used to accomplish by the Bush admin (who has only killed around 4,000 of our own to this date without a noose around his neck and with his own people cheering him on in their arrogance and ignorance).

Let Obama end these wars - who would not get behind it. Just don't let him take our rights in the process. Everyone deserves a chance - he scares me crapless, but I'm willing to see what he does with his chance at good.

You were the one talking about people who don't know their history.

History such as the fact that when Iraq was at war with Iran in the 80s, the Kurds supported Iran.

Saddam didn't just decide one day to kill Kurds.
He saw them as a threat to his rule. And some of them were.

We also removed a man who stood against Iran for many years. And in that way increased Iran influence and control in the region. A country our former President and his administration recently called a terrorist threat.

It was a good speech! No pomp or flare, just good to honest truth. Look we cannot rely on a man to fix what we know we need to fix. I knew from the very start Obama would be President. He reminded me so much of the impact that Kennedy had on people. His speech had highs and lows, but in the end it was just what it was... a speech. He used a lot of good references to history to make his speech good. He also used a lot references to future plans that showed he will be a man of action... not just a man of words. Only time will tell that tale.

While Bush wasn't the greatest President... somehow I think people don't quite realize what he has done... Good or bad. It is tough to assess the true quality or lack thereof on a President until he has been out of office for a while. Only future history will show how good or bad Bush was.

As for the booing... while I don't agree with it... this is still the USA. So they had every right to exercise their freedom of speech, no matter how distasteful it might have been to do so.

LMAO - oh cripes, Lee -- I love ya girl, but I sure can't picture you (or Mike Wright) making very good Americans. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaaha
    hahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahaahah.
Oh Man - If Obama could pull that one off I'd love him to death for his comic relief. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

But you would get to conserve on a hell of a lot of vowels - make you type faster. LMAO.

I thought the speech was excellent. Definately a different type of speech from the campaign and acceptance speeches Obama has done in the past 2 years. It had a different purpose. He wasn't after applause or votes. He's trying to pull the country together and inspire people to get involved and from the reaction I saw around me I think he is doing this.

Regarding the booing of Bush, I expected there to be much more than there was. I was in the middle of that 2 million mass of humanity and only heard a few people boo.

The inauguration was a great experience. But damn, it was cold!

I thought it was a well spoken speech. Keep in mind, I am a registered Republican but to me, I've always voted for the best man for each position but I do feel that there is a lot of hope for the immediate future with this president.

The man has a plan and he seems very consistent and determine to carry it out.

    Stay tuned.

I thought the speech was pretty good, I enjoyed his earlier one though, the night of the election. My favorite part of the inauguration speech was when he said that nations need to be concerned with what they build, and not what they can destroy. I think we all need to remember that, not just as nations, but as individuals too.
