Question for Linux and or Ubuntu users

I know if you're using Ubuntu you're using Linux, but you can be using Linux and not Ubuntu
Anyways. I installed LAMP yesterday with the idea of working with Wordpress on my computer for an upcoming site I want to build.
I tried installing WP through a terminal, but it only installed the WP folder with 2 (useless) files in it.
Because the www folder is in a system folder I can't copy WP to it without changing the permissions on the folder which has to be done from the terminal. I checked the Ubuntu forum and the Sudo page on changing permissions, but they did nothing but confuse me (no surprise there).
Could someone give me the sudo command to change the permissions to R-W for that folder?

    It has been a long time but try

    sudo chmod +rw file

    sudo may ask for the root password

    Also check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilePermissions

      Thanks Joe.
      I read that page before and it didn't make sense till you told me what to try above.
      I'll let you know how it works. Not sure if I'm going to try it tonight or tomorrow.

    Actually I think the command is chown. So it would be chown user directory or file. If you want to change ownership of wordpress to the user sue the command would be

    sudo chown -hR sue wordpress

    the -hR would tell ubuntu to include all subfolders. Also you need the full path to wordpress if you are not in the folder right above it. Meaning if you do the ls command and see the wordpress directory the above command will work.

      Well nothing worked through the terminal.
      But I just found the instructions I need in the Ubuntu forum after digging through the search results there
      Seems when you install WP through the terminal it puts the config files in a wp folder in the www folder and the rest of the php files in a wp folder in a totally different folder. The instructions are in another wp folder in another system folder:confused:
      It's starting to make my brain hurt tonight so I'll attack it all tomorrow.

          Windows will too! At least unix has some standards that are practically written in stone for about FORTY YEARS! Windows only CLAIMS sometimes to follow them, which is laughable!
