A New white Dodge charger which unfortunately is a POS and it overheats easily. I"m quickly losing faith in American cars which I hope it can be regained soon by some miracle.

For some reason I always seem to end up jumping from a fancy car as it blows up... story of my life. : /

I have 3 older cars, one Audi and two Fords. What I really want is a motorcycle.

Maybe sometime later this year I will trade one for a new(er) Honda SUV of some kind. We went shopping several times 2011 and think the next vehicle trade will be for a Honda and more than likely not another Ford. The Audi has been very expensive when it needs something fixed.

WOW! Is that american dollars? I don't know about norway, but people in denmark apparently drive what in the US would be considered good low end transportation, and pay about what people in the US pay for mid range transportation. of course, I am NOT including US taxes, etc... on the US end, which don't affect the price TOO much, and I don't know if the danish price includes those charges which CAN be excessive!

APPARENTLY the Audi R8 V10 in the US costs about $149,000. AGAIN, NO TAX, ETC.... But it is a LUXURY car and a gas guzzler, so taxes, etc..., in the US, COULD be excessive!

Of course, the average US price is made to be excessive so the dealers can cut you a tiny "deal", and STILL rip you off. So the average american haggles. They may not do it for anything else, but they DO for homes and cars.

The audi has almost 3 times the cylinders, over twice the displacement, and less than half the MPG of the average car in the US that is the kind you would see in denmark. I'm saying it in that way because some of these cars have different specs for different countries.

Yes, it's in US dollars included the VAT on 25%...

$149,000 is cheap for an Audi R8 V10 For that price you'll only get a "family car" here.

And the craziest thing when you buy a new car here in Norway is that the goverment charge a "Co2" fee on one third of the cars price (after all the taxes, the VAT and the fees).

WOW! I only knew something about denmark. It IS very close to norway in a lot of respects. And I thought smaller cars were like double the cost there. YEAH, I know denmark, and almost CERTAINLY norway, has "sin taxes". Higher taxes on alcohol, tobacco, some polution, and extravagance. This car qualifies in the last two categories,

A few decades ago or so, they created a gas guzzler and luxury tax in the US, so the fees above the price, on a car like this, are higher. ALSO, if cars have a certain look, rating, reputation, or class, ability, insurance rates can SKYROCKET! And this car DOES have that look, class and ability. Basically a speedy and powerful sports car.

In fact, my FIRST car was an isuzu. It was a new car, sporty looking, and had a similar model in Japan, that WOULD have cost more to insure. My insurance company had extra questions for me, because they didn't know how to class it. One such question was if it had a turbo charger. If t did, I would have to pay more.

And the craziest thing when you buy a new car here in Norway is that the goverment charge a "Co2" fee on one third of the cars price (after all the taxes, the VAT and the fees).
HERE they generally mandate things like catalytic converters. For the REAL offenders? Well, THAT is what the gas guzzler tax is for.

And in some states, perhaps all, it is ILLEGAL to remove the catalytic converter. Doing so, ironically, can improve performance. If you DO, though, in california, last I knew, it was a $2,500 fine, iirc! AND, if you have a catalytic converter, you may not be allowed in some places in some national parks, because the catalytic converter can get very hot and possibly start a fire.

BTW my uncle, in denmark, DID tell me about how some people LOVED used cars from california, because they are often environmentally a bit cleaner and haven't had a lot of things like extremes of temperature, etc... So a person could buy a corvette at a relatively low cost. He DID say that they would like rip it apart to inspect to make sure there weren't things like spiders in it. It seems like a tall order. A car may be free of spiders for several reasons, but the US has plenty.

Still, it gives you an idea of how expensive cars must be over there if they are shipping them from here to save money.

To give you an idea of how much cars cost in the US:

          kia rio: $12,295
          VW Passat: $19,995
          volvo xc90: $39,500
chevy corvette: $49,525 (I guess they are REALLY hurting. 8-()
          Rolls Royce Ghost: $246,500
          maybach 62: $423,500

Alcohol and tobacco are almost free in Denmark. I was there last summer and I was SHOCKED! A six-pack of beer costs $3,5 in Denmark, but here in Norway a six-pack with beer of the same brand cost $25-30... I'm not kidding! I think it was therefor I was drunk all the time in Denmark. :p

I shouldn't say this, but my uncle had ME buy danish cigarettes in GERMANY!!!!!!! He was WITH ME! So WHY didn't HE buy them? Why did we go to GERMANY to buy DANISH cigarettes? Well, HE was a danish resident, and only able to import a few packs into denmark. As a NON resident, I could take a CARTON! Danish cigarettes cost about HALF as much in Germany!

WOW, the danes make jokes about drunk SWEDES! Then again, maybe you seemed too much like a dane, and they didn't notice.

BTW I just have an OLDS Alero. It IS the high end version. Nice pickup, etc... Compared with the average car in the US, it has 2 times the cylinders, over 50% more displacement, and potentially about the same MPG, maybe as much as 30% less. At the time I bought it, it would have cost about twice as much. The Audi RB V10 costs almost 15 times as much, or over about 7 times what mine costs.

That's apparently an old article. Although I didn't find a date, one of the comments is dated 2009, which is when it first came out, so the auction in the article makes sense. I was talking about the 2012 model.

No, we use to drive / take a bus right over to the Swedish border. We can buy everything we need for the half price there than it cost here in Norway (not electronics, because electronics are cheaper in Norway).

But it's not so many Norwegians who does this anymore because the salaries have evolved much faster than the consum prices the last teen years. So it's mostly the "five percenters" (unemployed pepole and immigrants) who goes to Sweden for shopping in these days.

And the Swedes goes to Denmark again because food and drinks are cheaper over there than it is in Sweden.

Just to add: If you buy a half a liter of beer on the pub here, then you have to expect to pay around $15 for it...

Ive been free of the car disease for 3 years and i love it.

I just got good at literally making an income from the laptop, and instead of giving my money to oil companies and insurance ass!@#$ + car dealers

i use the money i save to travel, and spend most of my time in Colombia, where i leverage the hell out of the USD. With USD you live like Pablo Escobar down there. You can easily just live off riding cabs over there. you'll spend like $200.00/month maybe if you go crazy commuting every day on a cab.

So my proud answer is i drive NO CAR, it really changed my life for the positive to get rid of it and adjust to a life without one, by living in places i can walk to everything.

    Really recommend it folks.

It's the same thing to own a car and drive it, with using a cab regularly. You're not paying directly the oil companies and the insurance ones, but the cab driver does it from your money.

ALAS, I don't generally drink! MAYBE if I go to scandinavia and meet up with someone that IS a drinker. When asked if I drink, I generally say about 2-3 beer every 3 years. Then again, in the past 12 years, I have only had about 6 beers. 8-( I guess I am about due. THANKS though. 5% huh? WOW! HERE it is about 47%, and that is BEFORE counting the immigrants. My profession used to be over 80% american. NOW, it is about 80% indian! MOST are resident aliens, and most of the others WERE resident aliens! Most of the remainder were born to such!
