There's loose wire near my headphone jack. I went to the notorious Futureshop, hotbed of scam artists, just to find some kind of jack that would allow me to simply cut the wire and put it on. There's no such thing, the future shop sales attendant asserted, you'll have to buy a new headphone. That is ridiculous.

There are several *****STANDARDS***** for plugs, and you can replace the plug. The small ones are generally solder or crimp only. The bigger ones are solder crimp AND screw. ALSO, they have screw jacks. There are ALSO the special clamp type that clamp down on the conductor. They are often used for speakers on ether side on stereo systems. They are screw, solder, and crimp. GRANTED, I haven't looked for these for like 20 years, but they are STILL used and STILL must be made.

A place like futureshop will NOT have them! AGAIN, this is a word that has changed in meaning. You have to go to a REAL electronics store, or at least some electrical shop, etc.... NOT one selling devices that happen to be electronic, but electronic components used to BUILD such devices.

Radio shack USED to have all that I described but THEY have changed TOO! Try radio shack, maybe THEY have ideas, if not exactly what you need. ALSO, if you include a picture of your plug and/or the number of conductors(count the metal parts that would go into the jack, the diameter of the end farthest the tip, but still goes into the jack, and the length, for good measure, and we could probably help.

TB, I thought you learned your lesson where Futureshop is concerned after the episode with your tv.

Please keep us informed if you happen upon an item that is actually worth purchasing! :p

I have to repeatedly learn things the hard way before I go on to make the same mistake again.

Ceramic rice cookers are worth buying.

What is with the rice cooker? I've never used one, but can make enough rice in a small frying pan in about 20 minutes perfectly.

I just don't have enough room for one more appliance...unless, of course, I really want it.

If your system works, that's what matters. If ain't broke, don't fix it.

I hate modern stupidity, too, TB. I much prefer the old-fashioned kind.

I attended a toastmasters meeting yesterday and started talking with some guys after the whole thing was over. They started talking about this guy that gave the SAME speech six times. They said he is not even following the book. I reacted after one said "Just pass the guy along, we don't want to discourage him". After I explained that I surveyed people in Grammar school that said the SAME thing, about teaching kids that were illiterate, they suddenly spoke of all the stupid people even having masters degrees. One of them mentioned he had 2, and another mentioned he had 4! It IS sad! Almost like darwinism in reverse!

I think you're on to something. Apparently, stupidity is not that modern.
