I really enjoyed the show except when Madonna performed her new song of her soon to be released album.

I guess it had to be done.

I love the attitude of the song vogue and I'm glad it was one of the songs she choose to perform - out of her many hits.

I agree with you about the new song, and I was pleasantly surprised at the guest appearances too. Much better than last year's show, much much better. It was entertaining.

I'm not a Madonna fan at all...But I thought she put on one of the better shows recently.

She sounded good and I thought the show looked great visually. I really liked the black and gold costumes, and I'm the type that normally doesn't pay attention to that kind of thing.

I thought it was one of the better half time shows.
The staging and effects were real impressive.

I just listened to the show again and her new song is OK.

I'm not going to buy it but it was OK.

  • I guess I will have to be a dissenter here - I actually thought it was kind of bland...
But then, that's the way almost everything seems to look to me on NBC these days...

Though not a raving fan of Madonna, she is known for high production value, and maybe I was just expecting more from her...

Interesting thing here - from a USA Today article:

"Madonna, 53, promised to perform a mix of new and old, and said the creative direction will come from Cirque du Soleil."

Seems she was limited in the production of this show. She is used to full control but due to the time constraints, as well as the network, she didn't get much.

She also suffered an injury before the show. From another article:

"Madonna is just one day away from one of the biggest performances of her career.

But the Material Girl has been suffering from a hamstring injury in what could have jeopardized her big moment.

The singer had a mishap while rehearsing and as well as hurting her leg, she also suffered a knock to her nose."

People had commented that she didn't seem to have the usual Madonna dance moves. That was why.

Overall I thought it was pretty good. I was thoroughly impressed with how damn fast they can set up and break down that stage

I haven't seen Madonna in a while. Definetely one of the better half times shows, although my neighbor didn't agree. She came knocking on my door and asked if I could turn down the base I told her but it's Madonna! she didn't think I was to humorus.
    Good game also!

I'm not a huge fan of Madonna either, but after enduring several years of Lady GaGa, it was good to see Madonna bring order back - at least for one night.

I'm also a huge fan of Drum Cores - So my favorite part of course was when Cee-Lo came out as the Drum Major leading the drums. This will for sure be ranked as one of the better half-time shows.

The good: I like Madonna and this sort of spectacle suits her style. She is first and foremost a performer. I liked the costumes okay and all of the performances were competent and on key. Better than the geriatric squad (less the Black Eyed Peas) we have been enduring lately.

The bad: The performances seemed bland. There was something missing. Even Madonna. Cee Lo was the one bright spot and even he didn't seem to be all that enthusiastic. It seemed like there was too much stuff trying to be packed in and the guests were not adequately used.

The sets and guys hauling in Madonna on a platform were extremely ho-hum. I think Lady Gaga has probably ruined that for me. I don't know how much time or budget they have to work with for the staging but it probably could have been better spent.

    Conclusion: A near miss.

I thought is was, um, OK... The ceelo part being the highlight with the chorus, I guess they thought it was a safe bet. M.I.A. was a waste of space, last 2 mins of game made it all worthwhile though.

I'm in the minority I guess. There was nothing new in her show in my opinion.
Take the wayback machine and go to any of her shows in the 80s and you saw what you saw at halftime.

Well, she was clear before the show that it would be a mix of old and new. She did do one new song. Which I didn't really care for myself. But it was new

And try as I might, I could not find a past Madonna show with Cee Lo dressed as a marching band leader

Not to mention, I never saw a Madonna show in the 80s (or the 90's or the 00's either, for the matter).

And I don't think they had slack lining in the 80s... BTW, the kid slack lining is a local Colorado kid:

Kurt, they had it but it more than likely the only place you could see it would have been in a circus.
And as a circus arts fan I have to say I did enjoy that part.
