Do you own a tablet?

I own a Pandigital SuperNova and like it a lot. The 8" screen is a happy medium between the smaller screen sizes and the "too big" 10".. 2 cameras, wifi, bluetooth, Android 2.3.. it does everything I need it to do.

That looks cool. I'm not familiar with Pandigital as a manufacturer. How sturdy is the thing?

It's roughly Kindle Fire-sized, which is okay for casual use away from the office. I like the overall compromise, if it's tough enough for general around-town travel.

I assume you can password-lock it?

Like any tablet, you're not going to want to drop it.. other than than, I'd classify it as well made. Some have described it as "cheap" feeling, while I disagree. I was pleasantly surprised by the build.

You can password-lock or use patterns.

I'd choose the SuperNova over the Kindle.

I got a ipad for Christmas and love it, allows me to check email, surf, play games, keeps me off the pc alot...

We got one of our kids a coby kyros and it's crap, well, I guess it's ok for what it cost, but it's really slow, touch is off, I can't use it.

I wasn't impressed by the C|Net review. The big turn-offs for me are the unapproved version of Android, and the lack of support for the full Android app marketplace.

It's probably got much better access to apps than the Kindle Fire, but the Fire is one very well-constructed machine.

I'm going to have to see this puppy in action before I can really form an opinion, but it'd have to look a lot better than the review suggested to convince me. Samsung (I think) has a really slick looking tablet I've been considering picking up to test. A bit more money, but it's got the 10" screen and some cool features the iPads don't have. Aside from the Android apps, of course...

Actually, statistically, the majority of Android users are using 2.1 or 2.3 and because of that, most apps will run on it. Was just reading about this phenomenom the other day. Because of so many people still using older phones and tablets, developers are coding for the older market as it's still the majority.

You can add Android Market to the SuperNova and all the other Google apps (maps, Google Talk, Gmail, etc). You don't even have to root to do it. Video on YouTube but too lazy to relocate at the moment.

Kindle Fire doesn't have 2 cameras, bluetooth, or SD slot to name a few features the SuperNova has. SuperNova supports up to a 32gb micro SD. Kindle uses a heavily modded 2.3 OS so no benefit there over the SuperNova.

And my SuperNova came with Kindle and Zino already installed.

As far as the case build, I was pleasantly surprised when I got mine. No real complaints.. it's not bulletproof but neither is the iPad (or Kindle). I have mine in a case and would have no problem throwing it on a car seat.. just like the others, you wouldn't want to drop it on a floor.

SuperNova also alerts you to new firmware updates automatically, a nice feature.

If you want to spend an extra couple hundred, go for the Samsung and the 10". But honestly, with Amazon Appstore and 1Mobile markets, I haven't even bothered to add Android Market yet.. and the 8" size is just right for me. I'v handled a 10" and too big to bother with. There are times I find the 8" awkward (if I want to take a picture, for example). Sometimes I wish it were smaller.. 8 or 10 inch pads don't fit in a pocket.

I have a tablet for about one year now. I bought iPad1. but after first excitment, I must say that i am a little disappointed. It's ok for checking emails, etc, but when you want to do some specific task, for exampel write a document, you must pay for specific apps.
Therefore i find it quite unuseful, but for fun (music, videos...) it's ok.

I was reluctant to buy a media tablet, but when HP announced its fire sale of the HP Touchpad last year, I ordered a 32 GB model for $150 with the hopes that a rumored Android port to the device would be on the way.

I'm now running Android 4.0 thanks to Cyanogenmod.

Once Android was released for the Touchpad, I've ceased using the WebOS that came with it. WebOS is a nice operating system and easier to use than Android in my opinion, but there's simply not many applications available for it.

The tablet is mainly used by my children for playing games because I gave up on trying to find out how a tablet is supposed to be more useful than a small laptop computer.

It's durable. My 3 year old has dropped it on the concrete front steps of my house. I've also caught him standing on the screen (made of Gorilla Glass) while rocking back and forth. I've also seen him throw it.

I certainly wouldn't have bought the HP Touchpad at its original price of $499, but at $150 for an tablet with Android 4, it wasn't so bad of a deal.

Still, I've given up on the idea that a media tablet is going to make my life better. It's good for surfing the web and checking the weather report, but to do useful work without any input device except for a touchscreen is kind of difficult.

So I bought a keyboard for my HP Touchpad. When the keyboard arrived, I realized that paired with the tablet it was essentially a laptop computer. A jury rigged laptop that wasn't nearly as useful as a real laptop computer.

And with a keyboard, while I could type on it, it was still annoying that all of the keyboard shortcuts that I'm used to with regular desktop operating systems didn't work.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming models of Windows 8 tablets. With native handwriting recognition built in to the OS, Windows will allow a text input method other than an on screen keyboard.

My wife is in grad school and she uses her ipad2 more than her 6 month old laptop. She'll use the laptop for larger projects, but she is typing 2 to 3 page papers (they submit via website blackboard) from the ipad and that was even before she had the addon keyboard.

I only use my ipad for surfing, email, reading, and games (mostly games) and I agree with what some other have said, it is a bit big, I thought it was too big at first but now I am very happy with the size and think smaller would be difficult to view websites with. I just got a dock/speaker set and now use the ipad to listen to alot of music, also works well to play movies, even better for kids to stay entertained with in car or anywhere they are bored...

No flash does stink and limits some things I try to watch, I'm sure apple will figure something out in the future.

Geez I'm starting to sound like a apple fanboy, in my defense I still prefer android phones.

Tablets just aren't my thing. I need a keyboard, with lots of shortcuts to it.
I also hate cleaning stuff, and I assume a tablet's screen would have to be cleaned regularly.
The only thing that a tablet is better at than a laptop is for reading books.
And I can freely do so on my smartphone.

I bought an Archos 70 (7") two Septembers ago. I have used it every day ever since I got it.

It uses Android 2.2 and runs everything including flash and all apps. I watch the "X files" in bed every night before I go to sleep.

Also has an HDMI for hooking to my TV when in hotels or in my travel trailer. A usb port which I wouldn't be without. An external flash slot for sdhc cards so I can easily add storage. And of course flash support.

I love the thing. I would upgrade to a better one but it is just really a toy and used for movies, music, email, reading my magazines from online subscriptions and video calling over Skype. I may upgrade in a year or so.

I can't figure out why people buy ipads. You are locked up in jail. There are lots of great Android devices that you can do a lot more with.

Just bought a Galaxy Note, which is a 5+" screen phone with 4G internet. Yep, I flipflop from one device to the next, but I love my electronic toys.

I'm sorta bothered by the new Google privacy issues, where they are making all my search and browsing history "public". I've nothing to hide, but wonder where they are going with this.

Had an iPad, but only for the first year it was out. I agree with your description of it being "crippled". I haven't kept up with it, but know that they still are without Flash, which to me, is both crippled AND plain stupid.

By the way, EVERYTHING on my Galaxy Note works flawlessly. No early bugs or defects. My only quality complaint would be the that the sound or audio could be better.

According to Steve Jobs, running Flash video on the iPad would bring the battery life down to 1.5 hours.

Steve Jobs: Flash Video Would Make the iPad Battery Life 1.5 Hours

It's kind of stupid to remove Flash entirely because if you use it ALL THE TIME it would reduce battery life to 1.5 hours. I don't use Flash a lot on my Android tablet, but it's nice to know it's there. Some of the Android web browsers allow you to enable Flash on a by element basis.

There are video sites that use Flash and therefore having flash enabled comes in handy.

I thought I heard once that there was a hack to get Flash on the iPad. Anybody know if such a thing exists?
