It drives me crazy to think of the death and pain caused by those arsonists - people sometimes forget the animals that suffer. They, too, lose lives and homes and loved ones. They feel pain. This picture brings me to tears - first for the destruction and suffering - and second that even between species we can reach out for means of good instead of to destroy.
This has got to be the most meaningful picture that will be taken in 2009.

I got an email from Colleen Slater with a link to the Sydney paper and

there was an article about scientists predicting these very conditions

due to climate change and global warming. We should expect more

extreme conditions all over the world in the coming years.

Thom -- the fires in Australia were caused by arson. A couple were actually relit after being put out. They are searching for the perpetrators. I can't believe that someone would use such tragic destruction to push the global warming scam.

Yes - we are in for some extremely wild weather, but it's not from warming. Peak temperatures were reached in 98. We are back in a cooling trend now.
We will see extremes of all sorts for awhile, but mostly it's getting colder. The current incongruities are mostly thanks to the la nina and cooling. In fact, we've cooled enough that a major volcanic blow could mean real trouble - and it won't be heat.

That is so sad. I feel bad for the little creatures but so grateful this one managed to get the help she needed.

Unfortunately I imagine there are many more like her who will never get the help they need. God bless the suffering creatures because they surely need it now.

I hope that every one of those arsonists get caught and prosecuted for the terrible things they've done.

Thank you HeySal for calling the global warming scam for what it is.

You want to know how the environmentalists played a role in this? Here is a news article about the families that are upset for losing loved ones due to environmental policies. They were not allowed to cut down trees and brush that were fire hazards and have caused this fire to be worse than it had to be.

We had a major fire here-actually two fires joining into one...one of them arson started (by a fireman because he wanted work)...another part of it stupidity started (she got lost in an area she wasn't supposed to be in and lit a fire even though there were restrictions in place & then...ummm.... forgot to put it out?) the residents of one of the hardest hit communities erected a billboard "Thank you EnvironMENTALists"...and it's still there to this day.

similar thing could happen in auckland - we have alot of homes in bush near the city. Just its harder to initially catch alight here but if it got going it would be tougher to control than the ozzie fires.
