The Chinese had the right idea on this. If you want to keep out alien invaders...you gotta build a really big wall - that can be seen from space!

They won't go back because the moon is boring.

You can only add so many moon rocks to your pet rock collection before you start thinking to youself, WTH am I doing with all these rocks.

I found this clip also...a few "dicey" words (nsfw - rated R), but still a funny take on "Die Hard"!

Aliens? All the more reason to visit.

Really, the cost of sending people to a big piece of dead rock is the reason. Personally, I would like to see a continued program of manned space exploration, but I don't see the commitment anytime in the next several decades.

If you told someone like me, a teenager when we first landed on the moon in 1969, that our space program would be where it is 43 years later, I would have laughed. In the short 7 years between John Glenn's historic orbit of the earth in February, 1962 (50 years ago last week) to Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon in July 1969, we did astounding things.

I think that they are trying to find some new challenge rather then going back to the moon -

Watched the first video and all I could see were a bunch of circles that provided no evidence of anything. There must be more story to it than what is being shown.

I agree that the real reason we have not gone back to the moon is economics. It costs too much and there is no commercial value in going. When private corporations are willing to fund the research and development and find ways to make money from the trips, it will become popular again.

We may have to miniaturize our space vehicles and send tiny robots to do our exploration and discovery. The only alien artifacts or evidence that will be found will be human-made.

Neil Armstrong. First man on the moon. For years Neil Armstrong REFUSED to be interviewed. Why? In a rare appearance 25 years after the Moon landing he used these measured words... "...remove truths protective layers...". What truths is he referring to? What truths is Mankind being protected against? The truth that we are not alone?

Something isn't right. Were they warned off a moon landing? For NASA to tell us this would cause panic. Also, for NASA to have spent billions in taxpayer dollars NOT to land on the Moon would also be unacceptable. The easiest "fix" would be to fake it! So perhaps man hasn't walked on the Moon. After all Neil Armstrong would not swear on the Bible he had walked on the Moon.

For something that's JustVisiting, you've been here a while (Feb 2008, at least)! Does time pass quicker in the outer galaxies, and more importantly, are the Maltese authorities aware of this discrepancy?

I heard that there were strange things on the darkside of the moon years ago - artificially constructed things. But if you think about it, there wasn't much of interest in those rocks they brought back. Now they are finding planets with water - clean water. There are also rocks with more valuable compositions elsewhere. Seems to me that if money is going to be invested in space travel, they will spend it going somewhere that migration or harvest are more oportune than the moon has to offer. They have found water on Mars now. Not sure the composition of the rocks, though. They have also found hella evidence of artificial structures. I would think that would make mars a better target commercially than the moon. In the next decade if they find evidence of copper close enough to harvest, you can bet your front teeth we'll be devising means to get there as copper is a necessity for civilization as we know it - and we are about to run out of underground resources and will have to count on recycling for any supply at all.

It's expensive to travel in space. They are only going to go where they are going to get their money back for doing so.

I just read where some researchers believe they have found an asteroid that contains something like 10 times the amount of gold than has been mined in all of Earth's history.

Whoa! I think it's time to start researching and consider investing in some space exploration companies! You know, get in early while the stock is cheap and before the masses learn that thar's gold in them thar asteroids.

They've also found a planet made of diamond. The planet's a little far to think about taking trips to but I would not be surprised even one little bit if they don't start devising a means to get to that asteroid. Don't be surprised if we hear of a merger of some high tech aerospace firm with a mining company very soon.

We still have to find a resource of copper though, so I would suggest they keep scanning those asteroids.

Now yer talkin'! If they can find a strong economic reason for doing it, they will fund it.

I think the benefit of going to the Moon first and establishing a base is, first, just to test everything "closer to home", and second, basically as a handy stopping off place in space. A space base close to home, if you will.

However, maybe it's not worth it, or not necessary, and maybe a direct route to the planets is just as good.

Due to the distances, we are not likely to ever travel beyond our solar system, except, possibly, on one-way generational excursions with no plans to return. Unless, of course, the secret to space warping gets discovered.

Come to think of it, Kurt -- I wonder if they are trying to figure out where that asteroid comes from. Bacteria turns gold elements into gem quality gold. Bacteria, means life elsewhere. Wonder where that rock came from?

While Nasa is out of commision right now thanks to the economy and obama(unless they can hitch a ride with a 3rd party) I think the main reason we haven't returned is because

1)it costs an insane amount of money and that needs to be justified(there's thought to be life or interesting stuff on mars hence why we just sent two new rovers there)

2)if we were to mess up the moon it could destroy our world...think waves and gravity, so idk about you but I for one don't want them up there drilling or doing anything. Because see 1), justified profits, which naturally would be mining moon rock or whatever they can.

3)teraforming the moon(making it earth like) is less realistic I think than mars. And I think that's always in the back of the minds of governments.

    4) we been there, done that, so US at least already has bragging rights.

No offense intended to anyone, but if you believe that video constitutes proof of aliens on the moon ... in my opinion it's because you want to believe in that.
