Breeding Children For A Living

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who is outraged and astonished at the absolute gaul of the so-called 'Octamom'.

Six children weren't enough, and neither was the money she was receiving from the State of California, not to mention the $165,000 she also received from the state after 'injuring' her back while working at the state mental hospital. (Funny, her back was good enough to spit out 6 kids while she was receiving payments from the state for that supposed injury...)

She has to spit out another EIGHT!

Now she's resorted to online begging Welcome to The Nadya Suleman Family Website , while fully intending to return to COLLEGE to finish her MASTERS!!!

Please go to that website and leave her a comment. Let her know what you really think.

Meanwhile, we try to live our lives responsibly and struggle to earn a living in a worsening economy.

On top of that she gets even more money from the state because a bunch of her kids are messed up (autistic, ADHD, etc.) How many problems do these eight preemies have?

Here, I'll let you read about the latest from this irresponsible woman:

Taxpayers may have to cover octuplet mom's costs

By SHAYA TAYEFE MOHAJER, Associated Press Writer Shaya Tayefe Mohajer, Associated Press Writer - Thu Feb 12, 12:33 am ET

LOS ANGELES - A big share of the financial burden of raising Nadya Suleman's 14 children could fall on the shoulders of California's taxpayers, compounding the public furor in a state already billions of dollars in the red.

Even before the 33-year-old single, unemployed mother gave birth to octuplets last month, she had been caring for her six other children with the help of $490 a month in food stamps, plus Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters. The public aid will almost certainly be increased with the new additions to her family.

Also, the hospital where the octuplets are expected to spend seven to 12 weeks has requested reimbursement from Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, for care of the premature babies, according to the Los Angeles Times. The cost has not been disclosed.

Word of the public assistance has stoked the furor over Suleman's decision to have so many children by having embryos implanted in her womb.

"It appears that, in the case of the Suleman family, raising 14 children takes not simply a village but the combined resources of the county, state and federal governments," Los Angeles Times columnist Tim Rutten wrote in Wednesday's paper. He called Suleman's story "grotesque."

On the Internet, bloggers rained insults on Suleman, calling her an "idiot," criticizing her decision to have more children when she couldn't afford the ones she had and suggesting she be sterilized.

"It's my opinion that a woman's right to reproduce should be limited to a number which the parents can pay for," Charles Murray wrote in a letter to the Los Angeles Daily News. "Why should my wife and I, as taxpayers, pay child support for 14 Suleman kids?"

She was also berated on talk radio, where listeners accused her of manipulating the system and being an irresponsible mother.

"From the outside you can tell that this woman was playing the system," host Bryan Suits said on the "Kennedy and Suits" show on KFI-AM. "You're damn right the state should step in and seize the kids and adopt them out."

Suleman's spokesman, Mike Furtney, urged understanding.

"I would just ask people to consider her situation and she has been under a tremendous amount of pressure that no one could be prepared for," Furtney said.

Furtney said he, Suleman and her family had received death threats and had been getting messages that were "disgusting things that would never be proper to put in any story."

In her only media interviews, Suleman told NBC's "Today" she doesn't consider the public assistance she receives to be welfare and doesn't intend to remain on it for long.

Also, a Nadya Suleman Family Web Site has been set up to collect donations for the children. It features pictures of the mother and each octuplet and has instructions for making donations by check or credit card.

Suleman, whose six older children range in age from 2 to 7, said three of them receive disability payments. She told NBC one is autistic, another has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, known as ADHD, and a third experienced a mild speech delay with "tiny characteristics of autism." She refused to say how much they get in payments.
In California, a low-income family can receive Social Security payments of up to $793 a month for each disabled child. Three children would amount to $2,379.

The Suleman octuplets' medical costs have not been disclosed, but in 2006, the average cost for a premature baby's hospital stay in California was $164,273, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Eight times that equals $1.3 million.

For a single mother, the cost of raising 14 children through age 17 ranges from $1.3 million to $2.7 million, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is struggling to close a $42 billion budget gap by cutting services, declined through a spokesman to comment on the taxpayer costs associated with the octuplets' delivery and care.

State Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Grass Valley, an oral surgeon who sits on the Health Committee, said that once a state Medical Board investigation is complete, lawmakers could review issues from government oversight to standards in fertility treatment.

Suleman received disability payments for an on-the-job back injury during a riot at a state mental hospital, collecting more than $165,000 over nearly a decade before the benefits were discontinued last year.

Some of the disability money was spent on in vitro fertilizations, which was used for all 14 of her children, Suleman said. She said she also worked double shifts at the mental hospital and saved up for the treatments. She estimated that all her treatments cost $100,000.

Fourteen states, including California, require insurance companies to offer or provide coverage for infertility treatment, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. But California has a law specifically excluding in vitro coverage. It's not clear what type of coverage Suleman has.

In the NBC interview, Suleman said she will go back to California State University, Fullerton in the fall to complete her master's degree in counseling, and will use student loans to support her children. She already owes $50,000 in student loans, she told NBC. She said she will rely on the school's daycare center and volunteers.

She's going to rely on the school's daycare and volunteers?

I am still shaking my head back and forth in disbelief at the cajones this woman has...

Well, how can this be allowed to happen? I know in the 70's in England, young girls deliberately got pragnant. A single mum then was very well looked after. A single child was even sent to boarding school because lack of play mate at home. This affair unfortunately could not last for ever.
I suppose USA is so much richer and can afford this affair, but for how long? Human nature being what it is, will take advantage if opportunities present itself! I assumed the 8 babies were due to accident induced by fertility drug. A disabled woman who already had several children wanted more? Words failed me!

As they say, it takes two to tango.

So, in this macabre little dance, where are the critics of the doctor who implanted the six embryos?

Where are the critics of an administration that could ignore common sense appeals from the grandmother and allow the implantation?

Where are the critics of the psycologists who know, now, that Nadya had a driving need to be pregnant but did nothing to prevent this psycotic need being satisfied?

This whole sorry mess is a major joint effort and such vitriol poured upon the head of Nadya Sulman is no way forward. The damage, as they say, has been done but culpability has not been assigned.

Without the experts (used to be drips, now under pressure) this would never have happened!

      Many good points there.
Naturally she would be the focus but what about the doctors anad staff that enabled all this to happen.
You know all they did was make sure they where getting paid.

I questioned how she was able to pay for repeated fertilizations. That's not a cheap procedure.

I think she may have some nasty surprises in her future - and so may that doctor.

That said, I wouldn't waste time in my life visiting her site or reading anything she says or watching her on TV - nor would I bother to make a response.

To me, she's nothing more than "news of the weird" that's in my daily paper.

John, this user/abuser knew full well the hazards of implanted embryos, that it was possible some or all could split into additional embryos. She knew that the first time she was implanted (that's how she got the first six kids) yet chose implantation AGAIN completely aware of the risks.

That's how she ended up with 14 kids!

Art, the State of California is now investigating the doctor who implanted so many embryos in this (dare I say it?) woman because he may have violated state or federal law by implanting so many embryos in the first place. She went to the very same doctor as she used the first time...because she knew he'd do it while almost every other doctor would refuse her request.

Disabled? What, because of her 'back injury'? Her back seems okay to me! Especially if she can go through multiple childbirth TWICE.

I call her enabled, as in enabled to rip off the taxpayers and profit by becoming a rancher.

It's interesting because when it was first reported it was assumed they were natural because no Doctor would be unethical enough to implant that many embryos. Hah.

Hopefully that Doctor should get struck off, but more likely he'll get a book deal or something.

I have a book deal for the doctor. How's about I smack the unethical ******* in the side of his head a few times with a big dictionary. Maybe he'd learn a few new words, like business ethics, moral responsiblity, upholding the Hipocratic Oath...

Only in California - aka Left Coast, USA -

As a life-long resident I can tell you we are home to all the fruits, nuts, and vegetables. (we also have whine)

While IN THE RED (both financially and philosophically) we 'proudly' have 'asylum cities' for illegal aliens and their anchor babies as well as many welfare sponsored American breeders.

Gee I wonder why we are in the red? I wonder why income tax paying citizens can't afford health insurance?

Don't even get me started on that I had already made a thread on this.

That doctor who implanted her needs his medical license taken away and thrown in jail.

There should be a law anyone on foodstamps shouldn't get IVF treatment!!!

Already she's getting almost $500 a month in foodstamps, and that's not counting the octuplets. When those 8 come home she'll probably be getting a thousand or more a month in foodstamps.

Why on earth would a single Mom living with her parents who can't even take care of the 6 kids she already has have 8 more??????? Outrageous. She gets disability for her back, 2 or 3 of her kids get disability and now she's wanting paid media interviews and donations!!!!

IVF is expensive. How dare she use the disability money for her kids to pay for IVF to get 6!!!!!! embryos implanted (and 2 of them split.)

She pisses me off, this whole story pisses me off.

Oh - her disability ran out - she now lives on SSI for 3 of her kids who are mentally ill.

Now she wants more money to go to school to become.........a counselor.
She isn't going to have a counseling career. Who the hell would use that sick bitch for a counselor when she's so mentally ill herself?

We need to adapt laws - if you are on public assistance and become pregnant, sterilize or give up your assistance. Under the conditions of this woman - take the damned kids and cut her off of ALL money. There are people who are living in the streets because they don't "qualify" for our government to help them yet money to help many of these people is being spent on a money grubbing baby machine.

With her history of reaping money from everything but work - school, disability, kids, kid's disabilities there shouldn't be any questions of cutting her off and putting her kids elsewhere until a time she can support them on her own.

Now - I have said things like this for a long time and gotten bashed up one side and down the other for making social and financial sense -- It is great to see that others are finally standing on my side of the line on breeding for money.

I couldn't agree more Sal, this woman makes me soooooooooo mad

There are people who are in REAL need who can't get any help from the government, but she lives off them.

When I read she wanted to become a counselor I thought who would go to a crazy person for counseling? SHE'S the one who needs counseling the most.

She's been living off school loans, worked for a short while, then her own disability checks and she gets checks for 3 kids!! I bet she'll find someone wrong with 4 of her octuplets too, so she can get more disability checks. Her Mom even said in an interview that Nadya doesn't help support the kids at all monetarily. She's the worst user anyone has ever heard of.

I didn't even know children COULD get disability!! How does that work??

Anyway are they going to do something about that doctor who implanted her??? The medical board needs to take away his license NOW. A single unemployed Mom living with her parents with her 6 kids in a 3 bedroom overcrowded messy house living off disability and food stamps getting IVF????? That needs to be criminal And she needs to be locked in an asylum.

Wow Tina! If you had applied for SSI benefits for your children you could've received $700 - $1,000 a month from the federal government!

Nice to know there are still women out there who won't use their children to pay the bills.

Don't anyone worry about any of those eight coming home with their, uh-hum, 'mother' any time soon. From the looks of that woman's home, she can't even pick anything up or vacuum. It was filthy! (They showed footage from inside it on one of those news shows a few days ago.) Social services will end up taking all of her kids away from her.

Americans have every right to be outraged at this woman's poor behavior because we should not be forced to raise her children. It takes a village? It shouldn't take a whole damned country!

I can understand being on food stamps (she, of course, automatically qualifies for the WIC program, which allows her to get certain free food items from the grocery stores each month) but for her to spend money going to college to get a degree she knows she'll never use? She's a professional student. I've seen that type before. They stay in school perpetually just to get the money from student loans. Some of that money is used to make the payments on the previous student loan while using the rest to pay living expenses.

And she wants to be a counselor? Where, Planned Parenthood?!

What really pisses me off is her self-righteous attitude! "I love my children."
"I don't consider food stamps to be welfare." I really do HATE people when they act like that!

    AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHRRRRRRHGGGGHHHHHHhh!!!

And if Bernie Madoff doesn't wipe that damned smug smile off his face, I'm going to SLAP it off of him! He takes people for $50 billion and has literally driven people to kill themselves and just keeps on grinnin', the conceited SOB!! (But that's a different story altogether.)

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE TODAY?!

And that crook Jeffrey Skilling (Enron?) is petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court to reduce his prison sentence? I hope they refuse to even look at it!

Where's a decent hit man when ya need them?!

Just the tip of the iceburg, Star69 (surely that's not your real name?)

Corporations are getting away with all sorts of murder (literally) just to make a buck. They don't care who they kill as long as the profits are coming in.

Read the latest research on sunscreen and sunshine - which has been "facts hidden" for decades because the corps fund the people who would blow the whistle otherwise - FDA, Academic researchers, funded by the culprits. GREEEAAAT. Same thing with fluoride - needed a way to legally dump their toxic waste and all the sudden the doctors are being taught that the shit is good for us.

I just thought of something. Someone needs to call California's dept. of social services. There's a number you can call to report fraud. She needs to be reported. There are rules that you can't have over so much money in assets to be on foodstamps and if she had enough money to get IVF treatments at $15,000 a pop over and over and over, that is definitely fraud. I don't know what the limit is, but I know it's well below $15,000. Nobody with $15,000 in their bank acct will get a single penny in foodstamps. If she reported that money, she would not have qualified by a long shot. Go ahead Star and call 'em. She is not only a professional student, but a professional user. Some people take advantage of the system, but this is on a level that no one has even come close to.

That's true - it always did, but it wasn't always worshiped as it is now. At one time people, in general, put honor and integrity at just as high a priority as the almighty buck - but they are now willling to throw everything good in them away for it -- even in amounts that don't win them any real place in the neighborhood with the powerful. Making an honest living is no longer respectable if it doesn't have the right salary attached. The loser is no longer the bum in the streets or the con artist - now it's the honest guy at the low paid job that is willing to do anything necessary to keep his family housed but can't buy them prada.
