Computer not coming on

Hi Warriors. I just got a laptop from a client. Upon pressing the power switch, the light turns on and then goes off almost immediately and the computer switces off. It does not boot to Windows or even display anything on the screen. So I am unable to enter Setup or enter the BIOS to change the boot order to do anything. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? I have already tested the RAM and hard disk and they are both ok. My guess is that the motherboard is bad. Thanks in advance for your answers.

    remove ram and clean, cpu fan might not working due to dust

      even tho it doesn't turn on, it should beep when it powers up.

      listen to the beeps, then look up the manufacture online, and
      find out what the beeps mean. the beeps will tell you if its bad ram,
      MB, video cards ect.

      IF it doesn't beep, chances are its the power supply or the battery.
      for 15.00 bucks you can buy a tester at radio shack.

        It doesn't make any beeps. However, I did notice that when I plug it in, after some minutes, the charging light goes off. I guess the power supply must be bad. The charger is new so it must be an internal problem.The screen doesn't come on at all. I will get a tester at Radioshack. Is there a particular name that it is called? Thanks for your advice.

    HOW would ram do ANYTHING immediately!?!?!?!?

    Actually, the powersupply is made to turn off almost immediately if there is a short. Try disconnecting the power to your drives, and try to boot. If the power stays on, the fan comes on, and it beeps, either you have a bad disk drive, or a bad power supply.

    Thanks KimW. I opened up the computer and discovered there is no processor inside. The tech that worked on it before me must have removed it without letting my client know. I have already told him and advised him it would be better to just get a new one as opposed to buying a new processor and going through the hassle of having to solder it back on the board. Thanks to everybody for their replies.

    THat is clearly the battery or the power supply... First plug it to the wall with the battery... If it still doesn't turn on, then remove the battery and turn on with just the adapter connected to the wall outlet... If it doesn't turn on, find a similar "known good" power adapter and see if it powers up... If it still doesn't power up, time to replace the motherboard... Laptops' power circuitry is integrated and embedded in the motherboard... If you can't afford to replace the motherboard, then you might want to try looking for those bad capacitors in the motherboard and replace them...

    OK, I missed he laptop part. Outside of atom, are ANY CPUs soldered in anymore? I would have little reason to trust someone to solder a resistor, let alone a CPU.
