Back in the late 90's there were styles of music called Uplifting Trance & Epic trance. Here are some examples:

It's called uplifting or melodic trance, it was never called epic trance lol. Some of the tracks are epic, but it was never called that as a genre.

I love trance, especially the stuff that was produced in the late 90's although in Australia they never played enough of it at raves. At raves they'd mostly play gabber, happy hardcore, breakbeat, dnb, etc.

Now I have Above & Beyond's Group Therapy on repeat. At first I thought the album was a bit meh but it's growing on me!!

There was a style called epic trance. This is from Wikipedia:

Uplifting trance, often synonymous with epic trance, anthem trance, emotional trance, or euphoric trance is a term used to describe a large sub-genre of trance music.[1] The name, which emerged in the wake of progressive trance in 1997,[citation needed] is derived from the feeling which listeners claim to get (often described as a "rush"). The genre, which originated in Germany,[1] is massively popular in the trance scene, and is one of the dominant forms of dance music worldwide. Historically it is related to the emergence of psytrance and the two styles influenced each other.[citation needed] Classical music strongly influenced the development of uplifting trance both in the 1990s[2] and at present, with film music also considered influential.[3]

As a veteran of New York rave scene we had all kinds of music with trance / hard house / jungle and hardcore being the most popular.

Trance took a turn for the worst with hard trance.

I guess it's just a case of semantics. Some tracks are exceptional and anthems, for example Binary Finary, but to call it a genre, that's going a bit too far.

I know jungle (god that's awful) is popular at US raves but it never took off here.

Back in the late 90's (the golden years of trance) made up my own sub style of genre and called it Hard Melodic German Trance. It was hard trance from Germany with melodic presence. DJs & producers such as DJ Dean, Nostrum, Gary D, Cosmic Gate, DJ Sakin, Pulsedriver, Kai Tracid, Aquagen, Angelbeats, Accuface & many others.

PS. Nostrum is 100% Hard acid trance but I still classify it with my HMGT. I've seen Nostrum live pa in NY, NJ, CT, PA raves

I restarted djing 2-3 years ago and now play different styles. At the time of me restarting I found new styles of electronic and they are electro house & fidget house.

I grew up listening to Cosmic Gate, Pulsedriver, Kai Tracid etc although Australian's have their own Happy Hard producers so they would play their own stuff quite a bit.

Who could forget classics like Kai Tracid Too Many Times or Cosmic Gate Firewire Cosmic Gate are good producers in their own right but have done quite a few good remixes too.

In Australia they played a lot more hard trance at raves, but not uplifting/melodic trance, which was a shame.
