Interesting article. This has been evident for a few years.

"The largest wave of immigration in history from a single country to the United States has come to a standstill. After four decades that brought 12 million current immigrants--more than half of whom came illegally--the net migration flow from Mexico to the United States has stopped--and may have reversed, according to a new analysis by the Pew Hispanic Center of multiple government data sets from both countries."

    "The standstill appears to be the result of many factors, including the weakened U.S. job and housing construction markets, heightened border enforcement, a rise in deportations, the growing dangers associated with illegal border crossings, the long-term decline in Mexico's birth rates and changing economic conditions in Mexico."


    They forgot to mention the fact that a handful of states with illegal immigrant problems had to get busy doing the job the federal government refused to do.

    I agree with Dave that some states had to do what the government refused to do, and I don't believe that "Net Migration" is down to zero. I don't even see how anyone can make that assumption since the very fact that most illegal aliens enter this country covertly,therefore cannot and aren't counted.

      I could have worded it better. The trend has been clear for a few years: the jobs aren't here anymore and illegal immigration has been going down. That's how bad things are here.

    When I read this story earlier...I wasn't sure if I should view this as good news...or bad news. :confused:

      Yep. It's good and bad. The good news is people aren't coming across the border illegally at the rate they used to be. The bad news is it's mainly because the jobs aren't here any more.

    That's nice now that they took everything they could steal. Sheesh nothing left to pick from the bones of the millions of unemployed American citizens.

    Very kind of them.

    Just when I was starting to understand how they might legitimately seek 'political asylum' because Mexico is so dangerous. I could understand getting out to save your life.

    I was tired of 'they just want a better life' after I heard that Mexico is not a poor country - they are OIL RICH -

    I will never understand why the Feds not only look the other way but impede and out right refuse to allow states to defend themselves in lieu of federal protection -

    There's good news and bad news. There are fewer coming over but the ones still coming across are the violent and dangerous ones.

    Also - one thing I haven't seen mentioned is the fact that many of them got scared they were going to be given "amnesty" -- which would make them real citizens. That means 1. taxes 2. no more freebies 3. jail time for committing crimes.

    Guess it's no fun to be here if you are going to be forced to live like a real citizen.

      Since the economy crashed, there's no milk and honey to be had...so what's the point of coming here?

      If you cut off social services, jobs, drivers licenses, health care and education for illegals - you'll stop the flow. We know that - but we don't want to do it. Right now, the economy is doing it for us.
