Seeking Telecommuters for help with a class project!

Hey guys!

I'm a big lurker and occasional poster. I'm also taking a business class that requires a project that I do a little research for.

If you guys have anytime could you please take this quick questionnaire? Its basically a few general questions about how you like telecommuting, etc.

    Just out of curiousity, WHY are they having you ask those questions?

    Hey, I have telecommuted quite a bit, and bet my answers are similar to most you'll get:

    As I said, I have telecommuted various times. At my last job, MOST customers were out of state.

    Reasons for telecommuting are: Lower cost, more convenient, and more flexible. You are more likely to work earlier and later.

    Unfortunately, companies either prefer me to be there, or expect it.

    Managers are NOTORIOUS for being LOUSY at communicating. I actually wrote a book on it. They will call you and REFUSE to tell you ANYTHING more than that they want to talk with you, and could play a week of phonetag to ask a SIMPLE question!

    How connected to do you feel to your on-site counter parts, if any? For example: Do you communicate with your co-workers over the phone or through email? Do you feel left out during in-office events or celebrations?
    This is hard to say. I commuicate via phone, email, and IM.

    If you could improve anything about your job, what would it be? More consistency with assignments, different or updated software, more/less video conferencing, etc
    I wrote a book on this. Standards need to be adhered to and communicated, software should be more appropriate, meetings should be appropriate, etc... It is ASTOUNDING the BILLIONS of dollars I have seen WASTED!

    I once wrote a solution using FTP, and months later was told I had to switch it to RCP to fit a requirement that they had and never told me about. I THEN spent several MAN DAYS explaining to them AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN as to how they had to setup RCP. A year later, I found a manual they had that was written YEARS earlier that said what I had to tell them OVER and OVER and OVER again! IMAGINE the waste just from THAT!

    (Optional) Briefly describe your job, your job's function, or title. Customer Service, Sales and Support, Data Entry, etc
    Consulting. Usually, If I am asked to do it all, I will suggest a solution, give options, and use appropriate technology to do the task and leave them with what they need and want. Usually, I effectively sub contract, and am limited by what the customer reveals and allows me to use.

      We are gathering information on what telecommuters want and will be putting it in report form. I think the end goal improving the department so that those employees are working happier...or something like that.

      Honestly, I think we are doing one of the student's job for them as all of the info related to the project is coming from her office (job description, info from certain departments, etc)

      I came in late to the class and didn't have a say on the topic and I don't know exactly how they came to agree on this. Everyone seems pretty gung-ho about it, though. I just need a grade and this is my elective. I've been meaning to email the teacher about it, because it just seems fishy.
