I have a major GDI problem

Does anybody know how to stop GDI stealing money from you?

GDI has a rule that they will only accept account cancelations by telephone - but do not have sufficient telephone cover for me to contact them in the few hours a day I have available.

Not only do they have this unfair rule, they do not even reply to emails relating to cancelations.

To get my message across, I cancelled my PayPal subscription thinking that if no cash was paid, they would contact me.

Not a bit of it. GDI went round PayPal and drew the payment directly from my credit card! As far as I am aware, this was never part of our agreement when I signed up more than three years ago.

This might be a big company but it seems thay have the same morals as any scam artisit on the net. How on earth do you stop this thievery?

      Art try a charge back on that card.
      Then cancel the card and get another one.

        This confused me. I'm surprised that paypal would accept GDI payments and subscriptions as they don't usually want mlm type programs.

        BUT - if your subscription was through paypal, GDI would not have your credit card info unless you gave it to them. Paypal doesn't share that information.

        I'd try a chargeback - but GDI may argue it if their terms say "must cancel by phone" and you haven't done it.

        Requiring a phone call or a snail mail letter to cancel a program that allows you to sign up and pay online is a bad sign.

    There is no way that GDI can draw money from your credit card unless you have given them details a few years ago. It should not be difficult to do a chargeback. The credit card companies are heavily in favour of customers rather than merchants.

    Thanks everybody.

    I have instructed my bank that no more payments are to be allowed to GDI and I'll see what happens.

    It seems that when this account was started, my credit card information was shared with GDI.

    I am still shocked that a company that is so well known would stoop to such low tactics of enforcing a contract which I do not want after three years. I can understand, up to a point, their insistence on cancelations being by telephone only but I do not see how that justifies their disregard of emails.

    Today I was able to phone them - no reply after 20 minutes! Talk about customer service!

    No. I am talking about GDI as in Global Domains International - so desperate to hang on to my little subscription they are taking it behind my back and refusing to answer email.

    Maybe they have the right to have retrictive practices but if they are going to insist on telephone contact they should ensure that someone will answer the telephone when it rings. We don't all live in USA and we don't all have sufficiently good health to be able to call when it is convenient for them.

      Any updates on this issue ???

      I have the same problem ....I cancelled my PayPal subscription with them & i am so pissed off when they went ahead charging my credit card without my approval.

      They have my credit card information is when i first signup with them using my credit card & moved to Paypal so i have control over my subscription.

      Its weekend but i will call my credit card company for a charge back on monday.

      Would like to hear any updates on this issue if possible ...at leats i know whats coming ...

    It seems to be a standard corporate business tactic nowadays.
    American Express is doing it to one of my bank accounts for a service I cancelled back in November. Its a small amount but they take it out every month and I have to go to the bank and fill out an unauthorized transaction form to dispute it and get it returned.

    I finally managed to call GDI from hospital and actually got a reply and was able to close my account. I explained my situation to them and that the only reason I had been able to call was that someone was prepared to wake me up several times. The response I got was a sympathetic 'so what?'

    I will certainly look out for this sort of rule in future - there is something decidedly calculated about it.
