I wouldn't need any software to track him.
If I tell him to be home at a certain time and he isn't, he won't see outdoors for weeks.

I also know where he's going. If he lies, there are consequences.

If he continues to think he doesn't have to follow the rules, additional items, especially the computer and phone would be gone.

It's tough raising kids. One of the most important things is when you make a threat, follow through with it or your kid will know there are no consequences for unacceptable behavior.

That indeed is key! And be sure you are willing to follow through with the said consequences!

I had an incident with my middle child once. Well, that should be a clue right? LOL!

Anyway, she was in Kindergarten, going to school half days in the morning, a prissy little thing in lacy dresses and fancy headbands. Awww! NOT!

This particular morning was extremely dewy, the grass and just about everything else was saturated in water. As the bus picked her up right in front of the house, I always watched from the large living room window if I wasn't outside with her. I looked at my little daughter with pride,thinking she was getting so grown up. She was a big girl now and we had just sent out invitations for her first "friends" birthday party.

Suddenly, I noticed the little red box she has gotten with her kids meal a few days earlier in her hands. It was dripping dirty water out of the sides and bottom. I went to the front door and asked her what she was doing with that box?

She answered saying she had caught some caterpillars yesterday and pulled lots of grass, put them in the box, and left it in the front yard so she would see it and remember to pick it up on her way to the bus because today was show and tell day at school.

I told her the box was dripping water and she could not take it on the bus!

She told me that yes she could! I told her she couldn't because the bus driver would not like her making a mess on the bus and to bring it back and set it on the front porch! She told me no!

I very firmly told her to put the box down and got the same reply! Stubborn little thing anyway!

I heard the bus coming and attempted again telling her to put the box down right now, and she totally ignored me! By this time I could actually see the bus and if I hadn't been in my nightgown and robe, I would have run right out there.

Out of complete desperation I told her that if she took that red box on the bus, we would cancel her birthday party with her friends and she would only have another family one, never believing she would take it after that threat!

But as the bus doors opened and the bus driver waved at me, she proceeded to yell to me that she didn't care and climbed up the stairs of the bus.

I am quite sure my chin hit my chest as the bus doors closed and started off to the next stop. When the shock had worn off, it came to me like a hard slap in the face that I told her we would cancel her birthday party.

I didn't want to do it actually, but realized that I said we would, so I had to follow through. So through the tears that were welling up in my eyes, I looked up every number of every child we had sent an invitation to so I could call their mothers and cancel the invitation.

The mothers all sympathized with me and encouraged me in telling me I was doing the right thing.

I had no other choice, but I do believe it was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do. I think it hurt me more than it hurt her though, lol!

Anyway, it is extremely important to follow through with the given consequences and parents shouldn't give consequences that are really just idle threats. Kids will see through it in a minute!

. You did the right thing. Reading your post, it broke my heart too to think you would have to call parents and tell them there would be no friends invited. That must have been a very difficult thing for you to do.

I've cried too when I had to carry out a threat I knew would hurt my boy. But it's an important part of parenting. As a parent, in my opinion it's important that we raise kids to be responsible adults. Dang, kids these days are so full of disrespect and an attitude that simply exudes the world owes them a favor.

I'll bet the princess thought twice the next time she said no

to her momma.

My boy was recently caught in a lie. Love that preteen age where they think telling a lie is easy and they can get away with it.

The initial act that got him in trouble was bad enough. His most pride possessions were removed and he was grounded. When I figured out he was lying, the punishment doubled. I explain to him that lying will only make things worse in attempt to stop his lying.

I may not be the best parent but I'm doing the best I can. I think that's all parents can do.

If I know that I didn't do the best I can and I raise a disrespectful brat who thinks the world should be handed to him on a silver platter, I failed.

I talk to my boy a lot. Most of the time, I don't think he listens. But when I hear him repeat something I tell him, I know he's listening.

So parents, keep talking to your kids. They may act like they're not listening, but if you keep talking, they will hear you.

Haha, I like your style, Lori!

I did leave out a few details, but so you can understand a bit better, I'll fill you in.

My robe and nighty were a matching set made of silk and lace and didn't reach my ankles, not even my knees. They were mid thigh length. Add to that a male bus driver along with living on a busy highway where the speed limit was 55 mph and you can imagine the traffic backed up from both directions.

That's the reason each child was picked up in front of their homes as it was too dangerous to walk on the side of the road.

Anyway, that's an awful lot of eyeballs having the potential to see me in my silkies, lol. And I'm confidant I would have been way more embarrassed by that than my kindergarten bound daughter would have been.

If the OP wants to track his/her child and thinks the computer is the way to do it, more power to him/her.

I used the software when my kids were younger.
We have all seen the Facebook and Youtube postings that kids have done that were inappropriate and sometimes we have seen the parents reactions and the consequences they children had to deal with.

Well,back when I used the software there was no youtube or FB. but there was definitely Instant Messaging and kids scheming.

Almost all kids have two faces,the ones they kive their parents and the one they give their peers. and in early stages of growing up they want to be "cool" to their peers. Doing so may at times mean doing things the parents don't approve of,but the kids think they can get away with it.

For me, using the software made it so my kids did NOT get away with it.

Consequences are good,but you have to know they did something before dishing them out. I could show my kids that I wasn't guessing, that I knew exactly what they had done or were planning on doing.

Best $100 I ever spent,and I bought it when it first came out, It is much more advanced now.

When someone that is competent in his field has done the research already then I don't usually waste my time repeating it. I already had researched the products and found what many consider the best.

The same goes for computer backup solutions.
I researched many because computers are what I have specialized in for many many years. Someone asks what the best backup solution is,I tell them an external hard drive and a copy of Storagecraft ShadowProtect Desktop Edition. I personally have used it and it has saved my ass several times. The only times it hasn't was due to my own neglect of doing the backup,not due to the product not working .

That site is hawking the very same product I recommended.
As I said, it is the best,but buying from the site Nicola posted supposedly $10 will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
The product IS good.
