A Warrior's Cry for Help...

I never wanted to have to do this. In fact, I'm ill just typing it up, but I have to do what must be done.

Awhile back, I wrote a post wondering about making money, as I needed to pay off a student loan where all kinds of things just went wrong. After attempting to work with my lender, I didn't get anywhere, and what was $3,000 left on my loan has now grown to $4,000 and gains interest daily.

What with summer coming around, I can make a little bit of extra money while looking for a job, and I'm making a little bit of income online as well, but it's not enough. I have only 30 days to come up with the sum, so I'm getting a bit desperate. Bankruptcy and death will not erase the debt, so I'm swallowing my pride.

I hate doing this, but I'm down to two options:

a.) If someone would loan me the money, I will pay you back. Since I've got some income coming in now, I can currently offer $20-40 a month. I know it's not a lot, but it's all I can do at the moment. Hopefully, I'll start making a little more money and this can increase, but this is all I can do for now.

b.) I've set up a page for donations, if anyone is interested. I hate, hate, hate asking, but I've done all I can do. If you can't donate, then please spread this page around. I don't have a lot of time, and that's the only reason why I'm doing this.

I know that there's a lot of hesitation when it comes to giving money to a stranger on the Internet, and, believe me, I hate asking for it. Even as a fellow warrior, I know I don't post on here enough for you guys to feel like you 'know' me, but I'm at the end of the line, and things could get really ugly from here on out if I don't get some help.

Thank you for the time you spent in reading this. For me, asking for help is a very hard thing to do, so please don't think I'm one of those persons who just wants a free ride.

I read through that thread about a month ago, and while it helped me to save money, it certainly hasn't helped me to generate any, and it will definitely not help me to earn $4,000 by the 30 day time limit.

I've already sold everything of value that I own (car, laptop, TV, etc.), cancelled the cable, and tried to start up services to generate some revenue, but I never got more than $50 with that. Right now I'm mowing people's lawns, but that doesn't net nearly enough money. Remember, I need the money right now, so I have no time to let it accumulate over a period of more than a month, and who knows how much I'll owe by that time.

Removed. While I don't make much money with it right now, it has kept me fed for the past month. Nevertheless, advice taken.

So you're selling a product that doesn't provide what it claims to then, because theoretically, as I hinted to in the above post, if you needed 4k in 30 days you could just follow the system that you are selling.

I mean, the sum you need is just 4.5% of what your product offers. Surely you can handle that?

By the end of the summer, I'm sure I could. But that doesn't help me at the moment. Yes, I make money from what I had in my sig, but since it follows an MLM structure, I need more time to get to the point where I'd have $4,000 within the time period required. I stand by what I was selling, but it's not overnight success, as nothing is. The owner of the product did not make false promises, but it's not good if you need money quickly.

Well now you are just lying. The headline to the webpage (his affiliate link removed):

Do You Need Cash Now? …

A little further down the sales letter...

        Do You Need Cash Now?

This paragraph insinuates that you could make that much "automatically"...

There are hundreds of great reasons you need cash now. Regardless of how much you need and why, if you could get $88,587 per month automatically from the Traffic Wave Money Maker System, I suspect that would pretty much solve all your money problems … and even if that’s not enough, it’s a pretty good start.
and according to the copy, you don't need to put in work like you suggest...

but this program really can be just “click a few buttons” and you’re done.
It literally takes less than 5 minutes to set it up.
Yeah, I stopped there. So the lesson learned here: if you're going to come asking for help, don't peddle one of these products in your sig (which was against the rules too, no affiliate links).

If you're out of work, why didn't your deferment request go through? Those are usually pretty easy to get. I assume you've already gone through your 60 months of automatic deferment, right?

Also, you say you can pay $20-$40 a month on a loan. Whoever's handling your account won't accept that? The regular payment on a $4,000 student loan balance can't be much more.

Further, since you're already in default, what's the rush? Are they going to put you in double default?

I bring this up only because you seem to be freaking out about it, but the worst is basically already done. Tell them you want to set up a payment plan. Sure, they could take you to court and get a judgment, but I doubt they'd go that far for $4,000, especially if you're making regular payments. They can't squeeze blood out of a turnip.

I'm not sure why the deferment didn't go through, but they won't accept anything less than $60/month for a payment plan, which I just can't make right now. As such, I was turned over to a collection agency just a few days ago and have 30 days to make that kind of money, which they want in a single payment.

I've got accounts on gig sites set up, but I haven't made much money through them. For my birthday I did get a life insurance policy, though, and I think it'll cover it in case of a worst case scenario (which I'm not thinking about right now). Granted, I don't want it to have to come to that.

In response to Joe (I don't know how to double quote), I was unaware of affiliate links being against the rules, so I apologize. I do stand by the program, though, as it's what's kept me from starvation. I will agree to have my account here terminated, though. Lesson learned.

Again, what they want and what they can get are often two different things. I understand you want the issue settled, as it is surely stressful. However, it's not the end of the world if you can only provide them a partial payment with a promise of monthly payments thereafter.

        Good luck.

This thread I find somewhat arrogant forgive me for saying. Its more of a cry for handouts than a cry for "help". You seem more hung up on getting some type of hand out then getting OFF YOUR REAR and GETTING A JOB!

How in the world are you only able to pay $20-$40 a month in student loans?

Let me tell you something, I am STILL paying student loans, and NO I could not find my dream job either, but I got off my ass, I work every single day I'm alive, and I'm able to pay MORE than my loans.

You will NOT convince me that you can't find a job to pay those loans, I don't care who you are you need to be more persistent, more consistent, and stop WASTING TIME making donation pages.

I mean really think about this rationally for a minute ok.

Instead of getting up and going looking for work, you make a donation page instead.
Instead of getting up and looking for work, you attach a sig to your name for a bs product that obviously does not work.

Then you question why you're broke?

You keep doing NOTHING but looking for shortcuts to money. I do not imagine this would unfold any differently in your real life. Always looking for handouts from people, rather than getting up every morning and spending 3-4 hours a day looking for a job. Or if you already have a job that doesn't pay well, quit the freak job and CREATE A JOB THAT PAYS WELL!

It is NOT difficult you need to man up and do it.

I was working a crappy low income job and could not pay my loans, so I did what any smart person would do and went to craigslist and start posting offers for landscaping work.

I found so many clients I was able to cut my work hours down in half, then found this forum and quit my job altogether by selling mail marketing and websites (mind you I know very little to nothing about programming). Now tell me why you can't do that.

If you are EDUCATED and healthy, you can ABSOLUTELY accomplish this. Trust me there is SOMETHING you can find if you LOOK hard enough. I've been out of work so many times but was able to quickly get myself back up because I was RELENTLESS in doing so.

I do not like being abrasive like this but give me a break. I see these pitty stories every other day on here and I KNOW some people REALLY have it hard, but so many of these posts wreak of laziness and inability to align priorities properly.

    Here is your "donation".
Tommorow get up and start walking into businesses. Politely ask people if they could use their websites redone. Once they pay, outsource the work. How hard is that?

Harder than making a donation page? Sure.
Thats what life is about. Thats how the rest of us make money. We bust our asses when we need to.

Sorry if I sound like an ass, but your entire demeanor just screams "I want hand outs" and noone will give that to you ESPECIALLY when you ask. Nor does the position your in even justify asking for handouts imo. Are you crippled? Do you have a terminal disease? No. You have a college education and lack of ability to consistently stay on top of looking for work.

If you live somewhere out in the boonies, with a population density of 10 people every square mile, then I APOLOGIZE for being so hard on you. STILL, if I was in your situation the LAST THING you would see me doing is trying to sell products I don't know anything about or waiting on a donation page to pay for my future.

On your donation page it says that you are qualified in webdesign.

Could you not go and do someone like a local tradesman a website for just $120 money upfront?

That would give you 2 months breathing space even if you stopped which you wouldn't.

6 customers at that price would cover you for the year, any more would start to reduce the loan amount.

I wouldn't bother reading past post 1 in the following but it has something you could follow.

      http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...t-4-weeks.html

If you ask for more like this guy, for simple website he is asking for $300 a pop, it would be even better for you. You only need 3 sales in a whole year and surely you can do that.

Redshifted nailed it, albeit in the rudest way possible. Hell, $4,000 in 30 days is not hard at all if you bust your ass at it. For a writer (and it pains me to say it as I am against content mills) you could go to a site like iwriter, put in 10-12 hours a day just writing, and make that.

Please delete my account. I don't know how to do it myself or I would.

Before I do so, though, I would like to say this.

    1. Yes, I do spend most of my time looking for a job - any job, at that. I'm not after a dream job, just one that will get me by in life. I'm offended that you would assume that I sit around all day asking for money. That simply isn't in my nature.

    2. Yes, I've put offers on craigslists and done all of that stuff all year, and it does bring in a little money from time to time, but not enough to live on.

    3. I'm sorry to have offended you. Hence the reason why I'm leaving.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6339976].message }}

Ok look lets handle this in a smart way ok?
You can leave, but please understand I'm not trying to set a precedence for other people to be hard on you too.

I've simply vented whats on my mind, because something tells me other people were thinking it too.

Now you have cut through the bs and told me you're looking for work, but can't find jobs. So maybe other people will come around and try to help you a bit more.

So I'm going to cut through the bs too, and ask you simply where do you live?
The second you tell me, I will go hunting for jobs in your area, and are you telling I'm not going to find any?

You do NOT have to leave and if I'm being an ass I apologize. All I want to do is search for work where you live, to see how many jobs are actually available. Maybe I can find something you haven't found yet?

I'm not trying to drive you off the forum man. I've been in your position and I hate saying crap like this, but I am an IDIOT (just read my post) and I was able to make money very simply just by asking offline clients if they needed websites done.

Do you live in a populated town?

Would you like to talk about this in a reasonable way? I will stop being rude but when I see healthy, educated college students leaving college to make donation pages it makes me sick. Maybe the students aren't to blame but the education systems. I for one know my university has an incredible work program that would bend over backwards just to find me a job. Maybe your college is different idk.

Can I ask where you live?

    Thank you - Red

/\ That thread he is posting is golden information. I posted in that thread about my own success with web design which is why I am having that hard a time understanding this thread.
I don't even have an education in web design, while you do, but I am able to find work and you're not?

Please all I ask if for YOU to go ASK business owners if they could use their websites redone. Don't go crazy learning scripts I suggest you just act like yourself, be honest, you're in a hard spot and could REALLY use work. I'm telling you people WILL HELP all you need to do is ask. Do you have any idea how GOOD it will feel to get paid on your first job? What that will do to your head and the way you view your life? "Wow, people are actually willing to pay me good money directly to do work I love?"

I have NO IDEA what I'm doing and am working on my 5th client this week. The ONLY thing that seperates me from anyone else on this forum is I DO what people suggest I do. From doing ONLY THAT, I have managed not to sink back into being broke. I was a cashier for christs sake 8 months ago, and now I'm bringing in over 5'gs a month (I'm doing more than just websites). ONLY BECAUSE OF WARRIOR FORUM. Thats why it boggles me how some people have such a difficult time just making survival money. I knows its hard but that doesn't mean you give up it means you play the game harder than its trying to play you. So I keep asking questions, keep doing what people say, and I only keep getting better at what I'm doing.

Just please ask a business owner for work, you CAN find it.

Um... never mind the details, the sig line or the donation page. Who freaks out over student loans?

Conduct a little research before attempting to tug at these heart strings. Unless he's in an area of the world where there are debtor's prisons, no one quakes over a student loan.

You're indentured to the loan for years anyway so you pay as much as you can as often as you can. When you can't, you call them.

Even in the worse case (after years of default), they'll garnish your wages and confiscate your tax returns, but since the OP has no job, this is not a problem either.

I read the post right after he posted it and the fact is that a student loan does not gain $1000 interest in a couple of months even when they go through a collection agency.
That immediately tossed a red flag up for me.

Then seeing he has been a member for almost a year and a half and had made only 17 posts,(its 18 now,he must have made another today) showed me he hasn't actively participated here. Another red flag.

I then pulled up the posts he had made. A lot in WSO and here in OT,with a few scattered in other forums including the main forum, but most were not of great substance imo. Another red flag.

Now, if in the year and a half you have been a member here, if you had actually contributed, gotten involved in the community and then had some misfortune, you would find the attitude completely different than what you have experienced.

But the fact is no one knows you. Your activity here has not been anything spectacular.

The people on this forum are great people and a lot of them have contributed to me and literally helped save my life. But that fact is I have been a very long time member. I contribute here. I develop relationships and friendships here.. And I was very open and honest about what my situation was and was able to provide proof without being asked to.

You cannot just join, do nothing in a year and a half then expect people to just give just because you ask.

Honestly, it isn't a great solution, but if you are 26 like you say you and can pass a drug test you can get a job at most fast food joints. Not glorious but certainly enough with some creative thinking to get you on the way to taking care of your problems.

Oh,and Halcyon is right. it takes literally years before student loan people take any real action.
I quit making payments in 2007 when I couldn't anymore due to my illness and they have just garnished my disability check. and during that time I accrued $600 in interest, not $1000 in a couple of months.

How are ya Kim, long time no speak.

Yeah, it sounds like he is in some sort of Default Judgment scenario - usually that comes from not paying/ignoring either the direct lender, state institution, or other 3rd party that is attempting to enforce the repayment of the loan. As Kim said, that takes a lot of time and neglect in order for them to hound you and I don't know if I have ever heard of a situation where someone is compelled to make a huge lump sum payment in "30 days or else." I mean, balloon payments are more common in home mortgages.

Again, who knows, I am just talking about what I have seen, or what I am used to seeing, so his situation may very well be different, and the fact that we do not have the benefit of all the information, who really knows. I get the sentiment of the above warriors chastising him and prompting him to action and to get busier with "making it happen."

Best of luck to the OP.

    Warmest Regards,
