    YAY.

Dogs - they make biodegradable bags. Those will be legal. As far as shopping - we need to get hemp legalized again and start making bags from hemp.

Good news about our plastic waste though -- they have found a bacteria that eats plastic, so we will soon be able to get rid of millions of tons of plastic waste that are choking our landfills and waterways with toxins -- if we can keep Monsanto from spraying it to death anyway.

Plastic, made from oil btw, is TOXIC. We have an island of it the size of Texas floating in the ocean. Landfills are being overfilled. It's a major problem.

Paper is not "environmentally friendly". Chemicals must be used to produce it. Trees must be leveled to produce it.

HEMP is environmentally friendly. It grows back within one season (maybe more often, Thom would know that one). It would save our forests. It can be made into paper without use of any toxic chemicals. It biodegrades so it won't cause a waste problem. It's durable and can be re-used over and over again.

Many of our environmental problems caused by plastics and manufacture of paper are the fault of the governmental/industrial complex's idea to make growing hemp illegal.

Ken - um.......you think it's even tempting to smoke INDUSTRIAL hemp? Not me. I'll stick with cannabis. If I'm going to smoke something, I am going to want to get a buzz.

Recycling is the sensible plan for plastic - but too much of it doesn't make it to the recycler. And as toxic as the crap is, we don't need it laying around the environment. Yet I will agree that it does have its conveniences. I'd NEVER store food in it though - nor would I microwave food in plastic.

I'm looking forward to the bacteria being used to eliminate the mounds of plastic we already have built up in landfills etc. Those are becoming a major environmental hazard. That symbiosis is really so encouraging. Just think of the problems plastic eating bacteria can solve. I'm excited to hear more about it as they put it into use at landfills.

(I was looking for a way to sneak this in the back-door without making it looking too political )

Senator Ron Wyden (OR.) has introduced S.3240, the Farm Bill, which will allow farmers in the U.S. to once again have the opportunity to grow industrial hemp.
Here's a link you can use to email your state's senators to support the bill.

I wish they would ban plastic containers for hot food. That for me is even more urgent than banning plastic bags. Lots of research has shown that heat causes dangerous toxins to leach from plastic into food.

Or plastic bottles for that matter. Now, pretty much everything is in plastic containers or wrapped in plastic. I'd love to see a reduction in all of it.

Exactly T-Bird, none of that came about because it was good for the planet or us, it came about because it was cheaper to make crappy plastic items than quality items.
