Can someone help me with this Mozilla problem?

My Mozilla page or whatever it would be called is now grey, no big deal, but when I put something into the search box in the middle and then click the blue search button to the RHS nothing happens.
So I have to put in the URL which is okay for some sites like the paper or WF but no good if I want to search for a new printer for example as I would put that in the search bit and click search.
Hope that made sense.
Any ideas? Have I done something to make this happen?
