Google Tells You to do One Thing, but it is OK if they do the Opposite? | Anticareer.com

"Seems to me that the Google ad space compared to content space is at a 75% to 25% ratio... and all the content is below the ad space. And why are the ads in a light yellow background that is kinda hard to see. Why not announce they are ads by putting them in a blue background. Google's search results are nothing but a big affiliate listing and everywhere you click will generate revenue for them."

Seems to me Google can treat their own site the way they want and so can we. They can also suggest how to have our sites rank better on their site if we want our sites to rank better on their site. We don't have to do what they suggest, it's our choice. Seems to me both Google and other site owners both can do what we want with our own sites.

    So what's the problem?

If you don't do what they suggest they have said you will be penalized by lower placement in the SERPs. Maybe you have found the key to driving 100% of your traffic without search engines, but most people have large chunk coming from search engines.

I get tons of search engine traffic. If you want to play their game you have to play by their rules. They have the right to make the rules for their site just like we have the right to decide what we do with our site. Whining about "fair" is just a waste of time because it doesn't enter into the picture -- it's their site.

Is it unfair because I don't link to your site from mine, but I do link to other people's sites? No, I get to choose who I link to, and if I want to make rules that you have to follow in order to get a link from my site, that's my business. If you want the link from me, you have to follow my rules. If you don't want to, that's your business. We both have that freedom to choose. Same with Google. Fair doesn't have a darn thing to do with it.

If you don't do what they suggest you are NOT penalized, you just don't get to place as high in their rankings. That's not a penalty, that's a result of how you choose to play the game. It's their game. Don't like it? Start your own search engine or directory. I did.

You, me, and everyone else that wants our sites listed in their search engine has to play by their rules. Sorry if you don't lilke it, but that's fair.

That article is designed to appeal to people who have a victim mentality. In other words, the writer is playing a game with readers' emotions.

Whatever - all pro and con remarks in this thread are valid

The fact remains they are getting more and more fascist about everybody playing by their rules. They do not own the Internet.

Yes they are the Dominator. I have seen them try to kill too many innocent businesses because they don't dot their I's or cross their T's to Google's specs.

Fine if they want to refuse and ban innocent people trying to make a living from Adwords or Adsense because those are Google's businesses - but just because newbies are ignorant to the 'rules' Google has is no reason to threaten them with death on their first attempt.

Since search engines do RUN the Internet more or less, I really think they should lighten up.

I happen to know that they hire a human who has about 1- minute there to decide whether your site fits the mold or not.

Humans are fallible just like even computers are and we are not talking about judging a beauty contest - we are talking about someone's livlihood so I don't think they need to be quite as cavalier about it.

If you have an affiliate program or promote one they will instantly deem you as 'get rich quick scheme' - try telling that to people working 18 hours a day to promote their business how it is 'get rich quick'...
