Here is a "User error" story for you....

I was without Internet and phone most of yesterday.

So I called Comcast (using my cell phone) and described my woes. They kept saying that everything looked fine on their end, etc.

The tech scheduled an appointment for today and then said to call if anything else went wrong.

So I called back later last night because all of the lights went out on my modem (3 had been lit up most of the day).

The (different) tech said that the power indicator should be on, if nothing else. Nope. Nothing.

Then she asked how long ago it started acting up. I told her about 8 hours ago.

To make a long story short, I had accidentally kicked my modem and unplugged it. The battery gave out after 8 hours.

I plugged the modem back in and sheepishly asked the tech to cancel the appointment.

She was still laughing when I hung up the phone.

(I am a Trekkie, not a techie.)

Wait, you actually got ahold of a live person at comcast? That in itself is a miracle let alone getting it figured out!

Glad everything worked out for ya!

It took a REALLY long time and various combinations on the stupid phone tree, but it was done.

lol your story reminded me of myself - I'm not a techie at all

Years ago, I couldn't get the tv to work (I still can't turn the tv on!) so I pressed lots of buttons and nothing happened. So I gave up and picked up the tv to take out on the street for clean up day. While I was carrying it out I noticed that the cord was dragging along but I hadn't unplugged it......yep the tv didn't work because it wasn't plugged in

All I know for sure is that my dilemma became the fodder for numerous jokes in the Comcast break room for years to come....

Brighthouse Networks is still the greatest game in town. You have
to do the phone tree thing but you ALWAYS wind up with a real
live American speaking person. I have my phone, TV and internet
all on the same service, which is risky, but haven't had any problems
    yet they could not solve

When you hear someone telling you what YOU can't do, they are usually talking about what THEY can't do.

Services from a company that doesn't outsource? If you don't stop it I'm going to end
up thinking you're a pretty smart guy.

Thom and Sal, I'm with you.
I will search for companies that don't outsource.
I have comcrap, but not by choice, its the only game in town. I get live people when I call them all the time, they are just located in different countries.
As soon as Verizon FIOS hits my area, I'm gone.
