A lot of self-definition battles take place in life. Friends will help you redefine yourself in constructive and meaningful ways. Others -- maybe family, maybe "friends," maybe enemies -- will try to impose ugly definitions of what you are onto you.

In sports, especially fighting arts, self-definition can make the difference between winning and losing with evenly matched opponents.
