Music I haven't heard in ages

give me some classic rock anyday!

We all define classic rock differently:

I listen to an oldies radio station that include 1960's through 1980's I guess.

... so I am having trouble with thinking of something I 'haven't heard in ages' - but maybe for me that would be jazz - I did go through a period where I bought CDs of nearly everything by John Coltrane, Billie Holiday and Miles Davis in the 1990s but with Y2K I went back to 'classic' and 'punk' rock.

I am sure it would be 'off topic' (gasp) to post anything not rocking here but what the heck. So here is Billie.

Im not really up to speed on what people consider "music." If I don't hear it in a commercial or a movie, I am lost.

I was watching a rerun of "Murder She Wrote" yesterday and

The assistant manager got his check, went down the aisle to the bank, cashed his check, and went across the aisle to Camelot Records and bought the latest Pink Floyd album. He brought it back to the store and put it on the in-store stereo system.
This was my introduction to Pink Floyd being blasted through the store;

lcombs, Funny, when you posted Red Rose Speedway I had just earlier that day heard Band On The Run on the radio,and I'd say it had to have been at least 10 years or more since I had heard it.
Also, I have to confess that when they released all the Beatles performances on the Ed Sullivan show on dvd a couple years back I bought it. and then watched it about 3 times in a row.

Also 3Dog Night had quite a string of hits, I think 16 number ones,but not looking it up, and one of the members wrote an autobiography which revealed some rather strange escapades. I'm not going to reveal it here,but you probably could figure out what I mean by google.

Leon Russell was part of what they coined "The Tulsa Sound".
I could have sworn I had seen a video of him playing with the Dwight Twilley Band in the past but I can't find it now. But I did find this one that had Tom Petty playing with them.

But this is the closet I think They ever came to having a "hit".

Hoyt Axton wrote one of 3 Dog Night's first hits. Can anyone tell me,without looking it up,what it was?

And I have a confession lcombs.I was looking the Hoyt Axton song up to make sure I was correct before I posted it and I was wrong... I thought it was Mama Told Me Not To Come and it turns out it was this one!
I knew he had written a few more hits for others,most notably one of my favorites by Steppenwolf (which I am about to post) but I never knew he wrote more than one for 3Dog Night and also so many hits for others.This is from wiki:

Just got back from FL. today.
WI-FI in our room SUCKED!
So, to play a little catch-up....
Spent the second night in Pensacola. A stones throw from Mobile, Jimmy Buffetts' birthplace;
So...

From there we went to Panama City Beach where we spent the next 10 days in room
overlooking the beach.
I sat on the balcony and watched dolphins playin' about 100 yards off shore in the mornings, people, a few dogs, and of course the gulls and Pelicans...

And then, for the next 3 days...

And then,Tropical storm Isaac had us headin' back early.
So, after finally buying a house, it looks like this what I'll be doin'
instead of dealin' with snow..

Forgot to mention....
The first day at Panama City Beach I had a few beers and
missed the last step on the steps leading to the beach.
F*CKED my foot UP! Had to use a cane to get around for 3 days and I'm still limping.
So...

Love this tune.
Just kind of a day-dream, peace-of-mind thing.

Hadn't heard this in so long I'd forgotten about until I browsing for some tunes on my new android.

I agree,Beatles were trying to be Buddy Hoolyish while I think both the Animals and the Rolling Stones were going more for British versions of what was called "race" music back then.
