I read L. Ron Hubbard's biography and kind of like him. I kind of envy the way a sociopath can just do whatever the heck he wants, irrespective of consequences.

Then you should love the American Federal Gov, TB. It's full of corporate psychopaths. Of course, you almost have to be a psychopath to do what is necessary to achieve the positions they have. The problem is that they hide their illness and power addictions to get up there then act like pyschopaths once the get to the position of power.

But most of the really good rock hunting is in the West. Maybe we can just commandeer a strip of the US that runs from Idaho and montana and AZ and NM? That way we can have our own oil and our own trade value metals (silver, gold, copper), - not to mention some farmland to go with it all. We'd be able to trade with the country of California, too.

But whatever would we call the country?

I could kind of understand the envy. Frankly, I wish I could do that WITHOUT the garbage. It is unlikely that anyone will find out the WHOLE story. I ended up seeing what the inside is like. It is NOT good. AND, since it is treated like a church, the taxes are low, and government interference is limited.

Nice - and true in concept Joe.

However as it usually does, reality bytes.

I can wiggle out of a relationship or a job, fur shur.

However how do I find another saddle?

We have a two party system, I like neither one and would like something more meaningful to the majority (somewhere in the middle that deals with real issues instead of endless tit for tat stalemates using citizens as helpless pawns).

Anybody that is outside of the status quo is nothing but an 'also ran'. Time and time again.

So does this mean I should leave the country? I hardly call that a fair choice or even a choice.

I guess my only choice is to continue to submit my 'vote of no confidence' which is not to vote - Never have and never will unless there is more of a choice than helping the least worse be in power.

Sorry - this is NOT directed at you but your saddle analogy brought this to mind.

What is the meaning of the phrase in Js. Carville's book on Clinton "And the Horse He Rode in On."

It's an insult. (Blank) you and the horse you rode in on. :p

That may be a fair statement for you. We all have our different viewpoints, needs, interest and desires. I can not speak for you.

I can speak for me though. Looking at other options on the planet is just obvious to me. There are better run governments that don't have the debt burden the US has, among our many other issues.

It's almost as easy to move to Panama as it would be to visit Sal. Are there downsides? Certainly. To everything. I'm just not going rule out some viable lifestyle options simply because those options are outside the United States.

      But that's just me.

I would be interested in hearing why leaving the country is not a viable option for you.

I have brought this up with a friend in Texas. She is not interested in leaving the country (of Texas :rolleyes because her 20-something daughters are having those smelly things with cooties. What do you call them? Oh yea... grandbabies. Totally understandable.

        How interesting is this timing.

        I'm a Selfish Person

Travel and living abroad are fantastically enriching experiences on many levels, however, I don't travel to make the world a better place. I do it entirely to satisfy my own interests.

I also enjoy playing guitar, reading, exercising, eating and other activities that are of no benefit to the outside world. I think that is okay, we all need to follow our own interests and do the things that bring us happiness, but I believe there is more to life than just hedonistic pursuits. Surely, a great life can't only be about having fun all the time.

I'm thinking Iceland might be a desirable destination for a one way ticket trip. The main problem with moving from your own country is being able to speak the language of a new country with proficiency necessary to actually be able to work as a full member of that society. It's not all that easy - been there, done that and got the tee shirt. I tried, but it's not that easy. Know how we feel about walking into a business and the people can't communicate with us efficiently? People in other countries feel like that, too.

Sal - one reason to stick to English speaking countries - because that is a huge issue to me too.

Ireland, England, Australia, New Zealand - we might need to learn the nuances and slang but the basis is there - de Anglais.

I know I'm nearly a year late in finding this thread....

But IF anyone is still paying attention or happens upon this thread again, I just
wanted to point out that #1, L. Ron Hubbard has been dead for quite some
time and the circumstances surrounding his death are very, very sketchy
to say the least. In fact, after the extensive research I've done; I'm leaning
towards the idea that he was most likey murdered by the idiot that is now in
control of Scientology, David Miscavige . Who is most certainly a psychopath.

Which isn't surprising given his upbringing by psychopaths.

I've done some very extensive research of this Organization over the years.
My research first started around 1995 when I was actually considering
joining Scientology and opening "Chapter" with a good friend of mine in
Charleston, WV - where I lived at the time. However, our combined research
showed us fairly quickly that it was basically a HUGE SCAM looking for its
Members or New Members to pay to have their Churches built.

In other words we would not only have to PAY to become a Member of
the Church of Scientology itself, but also pay for the property and building(s)
to build and run one of their "Orgs" or so-called Churches. Which also
involves a whole shitload of fees to get to the level needed that allows you
to run one of their so-called Churches.

Like I said, it didn't take us long to realize that it was one HUGE SCAM and
we quickly abandoned the idea of even joining the Church of Scientology,
much less running one of these brainwashing warehouses.

Then, some years later I ran into an eX-Scientologist and simply could not
believe the horror stories I was being told about this "Religion". Which lead
me to doing more research on this crazy ass cult. TONS of research. It's
really insane what goes on within and outside of Scientology by its faithful
    members.

This is probably the biggest brainwashing organization in existence aside from
the "Powers that Be" controlling the military, media and money.... and well,
    Christianity of course.

Anyway, during my research I discovered that Scientology had/has plans of
infiltrating every aspect of our government and educational system. And had
succeeded in many areas, especially in education. I'm not sure if anyone here is
aware, but Applied Scholastics (the primary company most public schools get their
educational materials from) is one of Scientologys' Organizations.

I remember when I was in high school in the late 80s and early 90s most of
our books where from "Applied Scholastics". I've also seen my own children's
books which also have the "Applied Scholastics" logo. And the dumbing down
and brain washing of American children continues to this very day.

I won't go into all the details, but it goes much, much deeper than that.

When Scientology was still trying to obtain their non-profit status, they had
infiltrated the IRS in order to steal any incriminating evidence against them
(as they were under investigation, pending their tax-exempt, non-profit status).
They were somewhat successful. However, during the years this was going on
a director of the IRS actually infiltrated Scientology as well. But NOT to deny
them as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. It was more for personal gains...
    kind of.

To make a long story short, the IRS now basically OWNS & runs Scientology
and all of the Organizations under it's control. This IRS take-over coincided with
    L. Ron Hubbards' death. But remember, at this point in time it wasn't the IRS's
intention to deny them as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. Now, it was
their intention to take over Scientology for not only monetary gains but to
step up the built-in brain washing machine that is Scientology.

Even before the IRS involvement, Scientology had already infiltrated many areas
of government, including their spy networks and much of the legal system. I'm
not sure if you know much about the IRS, but I'd bet we could (mostly) all
agree that it is one of the shadiest operations ever known to mankind. Couple
this with the fact that they now Own the Brain Washing machine that is Scientology
and well, it is a very scary situation indeed.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the IRS seems to have taken over
Scientology operations quite some time ago and it's only gone downhill even
more since its take over. Of course, Scientologists are NOT aware of this in any
way, shape or form. Just as the vast majority of them also are NOT aware that
they have been massively brain washed into accepting the idiocy that is Scientology.
Of course, when people DO realize that they are continually being Brain Washed,
they inevitably leave the Church and then get attacked in ways that can completely
destroy their lives (in the press, in courts, in public, etc.) and careers.

I don't mean physically attacked, though that happens on occasion as well.

Ok, I've ranted enough. I just couldn't help but mention this.
