So, first we run out of money credit and jobs ....
and a few years later run out of everything else
except people

    Okay then, so we kill 50% of the world population later this year. Problem solved.

    But who decides who lives and who dies?

    Or should we move towards mass sterilization? If we end breeding for a vast percentage of the world population, it'll eventually reduce the population as people die of various other causes, right?

    Colonize the moon, anyone?

    I doubt we will have the 2030 problem to worry about as we will likely have experienced World War III and nuclear holocaust by then. We'll have a vastly reduced population, but also a vastly increased area of the world that becomes a radioactive no-man's land for the next thousand years.

        Isn't that sort of like trying to kiss your elbow?

        I only allocate so much time to focusing on upcoming or current crises - and my schedule is full at the moment. I'll worry about this one in 2013 - if there is a 2013, that is.

    Funny - Scientists who originally believed unprecedented global famine would hit in 2030 have moved their dates up and predicted the onset for 2010 - and right now 1 bil are starving.....so we are 1 year ahead of the onset at a bil starving. Commercial fisheries are in trouble - demand way above what can be produced or fished and global fish supplies failing. Fresh water fish in many parts of the US (not sure about elsewhere) are becoming
    endangered because of gender confusion caused by our wonderful estrogen-mimicking chemicals - like those that people are slapping on in sunscreen then washing into our streams and lakes and the residue of DDT fertilizers (which are curiously similar to many sunscreens now on the market).

    If all falls as non-politically funded scientists predict - we can start looking at the fact we are already in trouble.

    As far as I'm concerned - if I'm going to listen to scientists - I want to hear what the ones that aren't funded by corporate interests have to say - keep the rest in DC with the other scum.

    I don't doubt for a second what this guy is saying is true. You taught us before that one billion people are already hungry (that number is almost impossible to grasp.)

    But if this guy is going to associate himself with environmentalists and politicians, he is going to be ignored after global warming and carbon taxes fiasco.

      This guy isn't one I'd listen to - 2030 is an almost 2 year old figure. The onset of global famine was recalculated after the cold snaps last winter killed so many crops, and so many million hectacres of land were desertificated. Mexico alone lost 800,000 hectacres of arable land last year alone. The new figure for the onset of real global starvation is 2010 - and there are already 32 countries in the throes of famine. 32 countries, 1 billion people, and it hasn't even really started yet. Kewl.

      It's also been predicted by a few scientists that I know personally, that the earth will shed 3 billion people before the crisis stabilizes - but I'm thinking we're going to lose 4 to 5 bil. Once real famine etc sets in, people will be running wild and stripping the forests, fields, and water ways of everything and anything edible and that is going to start a very nasty chain reaction. If the northern regions can stay warm the number of casualties won't be quite that high, but if we get a few years of bad northern winters, I am predicting 5 bil.

      Not real happy about it - in an all out catastrophic global crisis, I'm not statistically inclined to be one of those who comes through it. Unfair after spending a lifetime dedicated to this mess - but hey, no one gets out of here alive anyhow.
