Indeed they are. We have one that lives on an island in the river just a couple blocks from my house. Someone else said there's actually two, but I've only seen one.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Wow, they are superb fishers. Sure wish I could tame one and train it to bring in dinner to share. I'd even be willing to get a small table and perch so the eagle could eat with the rest of us -- outdoors.

Some day, the science of robots will make a bald eagle for people too lazy to fish for themselves. Then the only question will be whether or not the robot bald eagle needs a license to fish.

I think a lot of birds, and eagles of course, are good at fishing. An eagle can be big, and glide well, so they can grab pretty large fish so easily.

As for bald eagles, in the US at least, I think it is generally forbidden to do such things, keep as a pet, train, etc.... They are the national bird, after all. It WAS endangered, but now is supposedly ok!

and YEAH, if you built a robotic eagle, or the bird fished at your direction, YOU would need a permit. HECK, they might FINE you if the fish is not just so. There are various regulations regarding what fish you can KEEP!

I've seen Ospreys here in Florida do the same thing only with Bass that are about the same size as the bird! How they manage to fly away with something their own size is beyond me but it's quite the sight!
