My wifes computer was working fine when I went to sleep. She goes to use it and up pops a screen saying the computer has been blocked and you need to pay a fine of $200 with a green dot mastercard before the fine costs more.

It comes up before the computer hits the internet. I'm out of my leauge here. Is there a fix? What do we do? Thanks.

Yep I'd say its a virus. Whatever you do, don't pay or try to pay anything. It's a big rip-off or they will steal your details. These things can come in on something you or your wife downloaded and the virus protector won't catch it. You may have to take it to a technician.

I think this time instead of fixing the virus you should get on the phone with your local DA, police, or FBI. This is extreme and the authorities might be able to catch this dude. Makes ya wonder how much this guy has extorted from people already.

First - DON'T PAY THE "FINE" BECAUSE IT'S A SCAM OR MAYBE PISHING.

Second - If you use Windows, start windows in safe-mode and try to remove the virus with your virus program. If you DON'T have a virus program - Start Windows in safe-mode with Internet connection and download a free antivirus program like Avast Free antivirus, it's a good antivirus software. Then try to remove the virus in safe-mode.

But I would recommend you to whipe your hard drive and re-install Windows if you don't have any important stuff on it. But you could always do a backup of your important files. But the problem would be that these files could be infected by the virus as well.

Two of my friends had this happen last week - it claimed to be from Yorkshire police, that they'd been viewing illegal porn, and they had to pay £100. It's been going around for a while it seems, different countries and different police names. Haven't heard if my friends have managed to access their computers yet.

Lynn, if they are windows PC they can usually start in safe and select safe mode with network connection,or something similar, can't remember exact wording.
And if Malwarebytes doesn't fix it,but it seems to have for the OP,then download a program called HijackThis.

      Hello everyone.

I just wanted to let you know...it went away and now it is back...lol

The good news is for whatever reason it does not seem to damage the system. I just wish i could get rid of the thing.

The malware bytes got rid of it but it just keeps coming back.

      Im at a loss here.

This is the programme I have been using for a while and have had no problems since starting to use it, there is a free version but not sure how good that is. I am using the full version and it's very easy to use.

There is a forum over on the Malware bytes site. Post your problem and some very knowledgeable people will help you. I had a rootkit virus a couple of years ago that kept coming back. I posted the issue on the forum and got the virus off the system.

Did you run Malwarebyte in safe mode after you downloaded it? If not, that might be why you still have it, but otherwise I would also try this:
    Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller

Some could get themselves into trouble with this one unless you know what you're deleting.

    Hi

I think you have a variant of the Microsoft Windows Ukash Virus. Here is how to remove it:

Also this youtube video may help:

This is interesting too. It appears Avast antivirus (free) may also be effective at removing this nasty:

I got that FBI Moneypak virus awhile back as well. I was able to restart my computer and get back on. I backed up my important files and wiped the hard drive and restored the operating system to make sure the virus was gone.

I use "Ad-Aware Free" which actively watches for viruses and malware. It is free of charge and is always highly rated even outrating many of the paid virus software. I also never use Internet Explorer browser anymore although I've heard that the latest versions are less likely to get infected than the older ones. All I know is using Ad-Aware free and Google Chrome, I haven't had ANY infections or even any slow downs in over two years!

I also use Malwarebytes when I clean infections off of other people's computers. It's much faster than Ad-Aware for fixing problems although Ad-Aware prevents getting them in the first place. I've found Malwarebytes to be much easier to get downloaded unto an infected computer too.

I also suggest that you have two or better yet three browsers available. You may get a browser infection that keeps you from using the web. If you have other choices you sometimes can get online with them.

    Hello,

don't visit poor rated websites, maximum viruses and spywares get access to your network because of such kind of harmful websites.
I am using Advanced System Protector, which is an effective solution to find and remove malware infections present on your PC. It also provides protection shields against malware threats.

If it's hitting your desktop it could be worse - the Hijack it is a good tool but I think it costs. TDSSkiller by Kepersky is free and I used it to kill a trojan/keylogger that was locking the woman out from her desktop. I had to go in through the user partition to be able to download it. Safe mode might work, too. I'd try that first because it's good, from a very reputable company, and you can run it free. Go for the Hijack-this if TDSSkiller doesn't work. IMHO anyhow.

    Good day everyone

I have discovered an annoying virus on my laptop called "Browse to Save" and have tried everything to get rid of it with no success.

If anyone knows the solution to my problem, I would be so deeply grateful for your help.

Last option is to take it to an expert, but money is tight.

Kindest regards to one and all...Mick Adams

Try turning off system restore and running malwarebytes. Also run the ESET online scanner. I've never tried a better solution once your PC gets infected.

NOBODY is going to charge a fine like that! NOBODY! WHY? They don't knw WHO you are! They don't know if YOU are guilty(though I could not imagine the problem), it is TOO easy to leave, etc....

This might not even be a virus. Some sites have a popup come up, and they could say almost anything! A popular ruse is that you are infected, and must buy THEIR software. You only get infected if you take one of the routes they picked.
