Money Driven Spammers, Ugh!

Oh oh, I feel a rant coming on, maybe sort of...

It seems that since the Warrior Forum is the largest and most popular of internet marketing forums, of course spammers arrive here in droves trying by any means possible, to get a link whether by spamvertising or by way of a signature link. Honestly, it annoys me to end. Oh, and that's not even mentioning the black hatters or trolls!

Then there is my beloved OT, where for some reason, flocks of spammers come and post in the cover of night, in the wee hours of the morning where they think they can fly under the radar. Ha! If they think they can get past the eyes of KimW (there's your name in print again Kim ), Kay, Thom, Jody, HeySal, myself and most of my friends here, then they're not only a spammer, but a stupid one at that!

Anyway, I had to take pause and try to figure out why exactly they do it. Some say it is because they read an e-book by some self proclaimed guru who told them to. I can hardly believe that is the case though, for if I read that in an e-book, I'd roll my eyes and think what a colossal idiot!

Sure they may go ahead and take that advice, but why? I, nor my IM friends certainly wouldn't! Well, I believe it's all about money, money, money, at all costs...people, values, morals and ethics be darned!

I'm sure I've shared my thoughts about money before, but I think it worth repeating in light of all of the spamming defiling our forum lately.

I have nothing against money at all. Everyone needs to earn money to live, plain and simple. Some strive to better themselves and/or make life better for their children, to help others less fortunate them themselves, etc. That's very commendable!

Money within itself is a neutral tool neither representing good or evil. But the motivating factor behind what we do to accumulate it and what we wish to accomplish with it does come from good or evil.

When one decides to value money more than anything else, giving it more worth than human life, and begins to covet it doing anything to get more with total disregard to right or wrong, turning their backs on their conscience because they are blinded by greed, then the evil they create abounds and spreads. It eats away at everything good just as leprosy eats away flesh.

In the real world, people have enough sense to avoid coming in contact with fellow human beings infested with flesh eating diseases, but not those diseased with soul destroying greed which quickly spreads as fast as a plague. We have the intelligence to put those infested with such diseases of the body in quarantine, to help protect the public, and impede its spreading and causing a killer epidemic. But do nothing of the kind to stop the silent spread and infestation of the very root of all things evil; the love of money.

However, here on the forum as member moderators, we have the power and ability to fight those with soul destroying greed and send a message to keep that soul destroying plague at bay. We can use our cursors as a mighty sword and just hit the red outlined report triangle when we see the diseased spammers trying to invade.

Warriors who rule currency rather than letting it rule us, let's unite and war against the malignant evil at the heart of spamming!

Oh crap! Over dramatic! Where's my Snickers bar? Haha! :p

In the UK it's "Get some Nuts" and is put forth to anyone who needs to grow a pair.

        This is true, Dennis.

On the other hand, I just can't believe that all the spammers and black hatters don't know any better, though. Sure some very new and naive beginners, but no way near all of them.

We don't have to respond to them - they are busy responding to each other

I do think there's some book or deal out there telling them this is a good thing to do - has to be considering the level of the questions. The topics are designed to encourage people to answer - they are all about "what do YOU like/dislike/eat/read/watch/blah-blah. People love to talk about themselves so they answer.

Later the dude comes back and adds his sig link - and that's the point I think. One today posted a 4-5 word post - and his sig was a massive bunch of links.

That's why I've suggested sigs not show in the OT - we could be the peanut gallery version of the WSO section....no posts count and no sigs show. Might work once they figured it out.

Well, for the record, I have reported some too. I think they do it very late and very early to have it stay up for hours, get indexed, etc.... If it is posted during the day, it may not last even ONE hour. And indexing might be more likely at night, since it is less of an impact. Many businesses do such things AFTER HOURS. Being one of the ones that controls, debugs, and writes such processes, I know that well.

And probably like 80% of spam is for DIRECT payment. The other 20% would be for spreading propaganda, information, hyping stocks, etc.... So even that 20% may have a profit motive. I, for example, have gotten spa talking about how a stock will skyrocket so I should buy their info, or get the stock through them, and about how one will plummet, possibly so they benefit from fear.

Funny Terra I was thinking just recently about the spammers down here.
In a way I miss the way we used to play with them
We'd talk about Spam bbq, Spam burgers, how canned Spam ruined Siam.
How much spam could a spamchuck chew if a spamchuck could chew spam.

Heck that's how I became famous here for sayin "Bite my shiny metal ass."

But I guess after a while eaten that much spam will make anyone fat and lazy, so now it's easier to just report them

        I remember Thom!

It was fun to play with them like a cat toys with a mouse before doing it in with a final death inducing blow.

Maybe we can toy with them a bit before we hit the report button.

Oh wait! Allen asked us not to respond to them, but to just report them. I wonder if he meant it for down here too. I bet he did.

Cold calling is another totally different issue imo. Cold calling has ethical operators... and 'spammers' and unethical operators who are unprofessional and rude and are usually (not always) from another country of origin.

In Australia we are getting much more of it - and its frustrating a lot of people...and has for a long time.

The issue is in so many ways = "Lost In Translation"

Many 'just don't get it' and are aggressive and rude - and talk over people. They don't understand the culture or take responsibility for their uninvited intrusion into peoples lives.

I was a very successful cold caller in a previous incarnation so I speak with authority on this.

Good cold callers act responsibly, ethically, politely and respectfully and think 'long term'.Its a tough gig. Glad I don't do it these days.

Spamming aggressive cold callers are robots who respect few people. I see their approach as akin to the regurgitated garbage that you get in junk emails.

No value. No context. No respect. No idea.

Many of these sweat shops/cold calling factories set out to intimidate and mislead people - and don't listen to people - they talk at and over people and when they don't get it their way, they are either rude and abusive or hang up.

Their communications are unwanted and intrusive - and that my friends is exactly what junk emails and spam is isn't it?

That all said it speaks volumes perhaps of the inequities in the global distribution of education and wealth....

    But thats another issue!

I'm doing my best to throw a good light on the positive side of cold calling here...I dislike it personally, however i'm always polite and save their time and mine in the first few seconds

I totally agree. However the 'Do Not Call Register' does not screen everyone - but it is a good start.

Remember these people do not respect guidelines or rules - so if they have a lead and they think its worth calling then they will call it...unfortunately.

A friend of mine has been inundated with calls from one of those computer problem sweatshops from overseas and they hassle him and tell him he has computer issues - then abuse him and tell him he should use their services!
He even was called back from one of these people and abused for refusing the service!

Thats the mentality you are sometimes dealing with unfortunately....

"i'm always polite and save their time and mine in the first few seconds ".

Unlike Terr's phones, mine never say telemarketer, but always say Private,or Unlisted,or Unknown....any of those are a dead giveaway it is someone that knows they aren't suppose to be calling.
I save them time in the first few seconds, but only rarely am I polite.
I used to be,but found out it doesn't pay.

    Here is a typical call:
Them: Hello, my I speak to Kim?
    Me: This is Kim.
Them: Hi Kim,I'm calling to let you in on a spcial offer today only (or some other BS line)...
Me: Before we go any further, you do realize I am on the Do Not Call Registry, right?
    Them: <click>

Me calling the number that showed up on caller ID:
<recording> I'm sorry but the number you have reached is not a working number.Thank you. <click>

Unlike Terra's phones, mine never say telemarketer, but always say Private,or Unlisted,or Unknown....any of those are a dead giveaway it is someone that knows they aren't suppose to be calling.

<click>

Other than the "Telemarketer" on the caller i.d., I also get "Unavailable" and when I see that, I just say to myself...If you're unavailable, than so am I! and again, let the machine pick up and again, never get a message.

I also get "private caller" and "out of area", and again, I just ignore them.

My son on the other hand, answers and has a heyday wreaking havoc on them by pranking them until they hang up on him, lol!

Sounds like my kind of kid. I've been known to play a few mind games with telemarketers myself.

Sounds like you have been hit pretty hard with cold callers KimW...

I like that response from you re the do not call register....seems to work.

One of the big issues now is that even legitimate service centres are employing people with English as their second language.

Although the majority are very polite, professional and helpful - the message is often either lost in translation or you cannot understand them (often very quietly spoken)...particularly when there is noise in the backround.

Of course it could mean I need a hearing test...or a patience test!

To be fair, about 5 in 100 seem to try to do the right thing after being told that I am on the do not call list.

Okay, since I'm not operating in such a dramatic mode thanks to the consumption of several Snicker's bars, , here's something on more of a lighter note.

        Trumpet Sounds

Spammers, Here ye, Hear ye, the king's Can The Spam Act:

If you come here and attempt to spam, you will hereby be banished from the WF Kingdom forevermore and spend the rest of your days as an outcast, standing on the outside of the gates looking in and drooling, wishing that you hadn't been so stupid as to do the spamming that got you banned.

Or you'll run over to an inferior kingdom where you'll biotch about the WF kingdom and whine about how the king and all of his people "suck", shooting fiery arrows of uncontrolled anger which only serves as great entertainment for the successful warriors who prosper within the WF Kingdom's great guarded walls.

Yeah, I watched some old movies last night, haha!

    Terra -

Conscience isn't a part of every personality type. To the psychotic who has an obsession with money, others exist only as a tool by which to get it. There is no empathy. You can't compare their minds with the average person's.

Second - if people would not respond to those links, they wouldn't get posted.

Third - the only reason we were warned not to play with a spammer is because there is a small chance of having your own account accidentally deleted when TPTB get here to nuke them.

As far as cold callers -- I have a marvelous system. They call, I say "just a minute" and put the phone down and leave it there for freaking ever. They don't call back. Those automated messages were extremely annoying though and I have reported complaints to the phone company when I get those. I have also written to legislators to make it illegal to cold call someone with a recorded message. That one disturbs me more than anything. You want to market to me yet don't even have the time to talk to me live? No way.

That's why I'm into soft sell only. If someone needs what I got - it's right there in the sig, go get it. Otherwise, I consider it a waste of time to jack my jaw about it -- when I want something, I'll go find it. I don't want people contacting me about their crap. Just put it on a website and when I need it, I'll find YOU.
