Sept. 22 in the US is both Fish Amnesty Day as well as National Hunting And Fishing Day.

Carry on.

With some of the wild trout I've gone after, everyday is Fish Amnesty day for them
But I wonder which came first and why the other thought it would be a good idea to use the same day:confused:

I know what you mean...I get the feeling the fish are saying to each other, "Hey, here's Kurt's hook. Let's hang out here where it's safe."

They get a big advantage with me.
I rarely eat fish so I always practice catch and release. I only trout fish, and I always use a barbless hook and worms.
When my wife would see me pick up my rod she'd always say "Going to feed the fish again?" and I'd always reply, "Yep."

But on the other hand, I've seen flocks of Bluebirds feeding on Mayfly hatches. I've seen Mink go 'swimming in a creek and come out with trout for their efforts. I've seen wild Columbine at sun rise, and eagles soaring over a creek at sunset.
I figured out years ago that fish have very little to do with fishing, at least when trout fishing on streams anyways

I never get past the "catch" part to be concerned about the "release".

I hope I'm never in a survival situation where I need to depend on fishing to eat.

The state stocks a lot of the streams here.
As hard as wild or native trout are to catch, stocked trout are just the opposite.
I have one stream about 20 miles from me that only has native trout in it. Whenever I would get a swelled head thinking I was a great trout fisherman, I'd head out to that stream for a reality check.

When I was a Kid growing up in Rockland County,
I remember when some assholes dumped tons of methane into Sparkill Creek, and they had to restock with rainbow trout.
Every Cast hooked a fish, so much so we got bored very quickly.
We did not eat any of our catch, thinking the fish where still contaminated.
Funny how we still caught and ate blue crabs out of the Hudson, which the creek flowed into. No wonder I got dain bramage

        It's okay, Kurt.

Just hang around for a couple of more seconds and they'll forget. Fish only have a memory span of about 2 seconds, or so I've heard.

If it's a day for both -- does that mean we get to hunt anyone without Amnesty?
