Someone Just Tried to Steal My Identity : How to Report Them?

So the WEIRDEST thing just happened to me the other day. Got a text out of the blue that asks me how I'm doing. It was from the Detroit area code and since I just moved from there I figured it was an old friend who's phone number I don't have.

...SO this person says they're some girl who has a crush on me and wants to talk on Yahoo messenger. Thinking it's an old buddy of mine screwing with me I entertain the idea to mess around with him. Turns out this person who's IM name is txtieflirter sends me to a an actual website to "send me pics". This is when I knew it wasn't a friend of mine and clearly some sick scammer of some sort. The site asks for name, email address, and then...credit card info. It was absolutely rediculous. The site is txtgirlcrush.info/txtgirl . I couldn't believe people would be dumb enough to fall for it (although I'm sure they do).

Anyways is there anyway or anywhere I can report this person for trying to rip off my cc info/personal information. I have their phone number as well as website for proof. I really want to take this sicko down so no one else will ever have to put up with it. Let me know!

Doesn't sound like identity theft to me. However, it does sound like a well known dating site scam where you have to join a paid site to see the photos of the person who contacted you. People are enticed having seen an attractive image that purports to be the scammer and want to find out more, so they join tha site and the scammer gets the referral commission.

Maybe not trying to steal your Identity, just trying to get you to signup for a paid texting service?

I am not a lawyer and the law in my country will be different from yours
but the way I see it they have done nothing wrong in asking or receiving
personal info as long as the person giving the info owns it

Using that info without permission would be a crime
but I sure they could then argue that it was given to them to use if they ever got caught

But thanks for the warning if I ever go to that site I will keep my card in my pocket

And why would you give your cc info to an unknown website?

Considering that they are asking for credit card info and all the other details, no one here can tell you that it wasn't an attempt at identity or credit card theft. No one knows whether they are using a secure payment system for payment and I somehow sort of doubt that they are. Report it to their host. They may take action against the site or they may not, but that's really probably all you can do.

It totally depends on you. It seems you are asked to sign up for a paid account. So definitely they can ask you for you name, email and CC info. If you wish you can move froward with them with your own risk. Be sure that they are using https in their payment page ( only use your cc info if you thrust them )...
