I quit eating that stuff a long time ago. Hostess went GMO and nothing tastes like it did back in the old days. Not going to miss Hostess. What would be kewl is to have some company that uses real stuff instead of GMO crap so they would taste like they did when I was a kid.

Supply and demand -- Capitalism -- might just make it so. Already, statements on packaging like "No Trans Fats" are selling points, and I am quite sure "No GMOs" would be a strong selling point as well. Monsanto can be demolished with lack of consumer support, politicians unwilling to anger their constituents, erasure of government subsidies (yes, Monsanto receives government subsidies, not just taxpayer-funded official protection), and transparent disclosure of GMOs on packaging (rendering surgical removal of offending parties completely unnecessary).

Twinkies saved my life 35 years ago.

I was in a small mom and pop gas station in SC with a huge need to cure some munchies.

Doritoes or Twinkies? Ummmm......yes TWINKIES!

Just as I found the Twinkies and bent over to snag myself a couple of packs (they were on the next to bottom shelf...) a man brandishing a rather large revolver burst into the store with the intention of robbing the place. In his excitement his gun accidently went off and blew Snickers and Milky Ways bars into a chocolate and nut cloud two shelves above my head....

I know...

I was in Charleston for 4 years in the Navy and LOVED the place. I've been told though that most of the places we hung out back then is no place to be after dark anymore (or daytime either, for that matter). Thats a shame...

I had to ask Google what Twinkies are... turns out they're just bits of sponge cake with cream in them.

So why not go to your local bakery, buy an actual sponge cake, and cut it into pieces = instant twinkies.

Well, there workers are unionized also. Interestingly, the only ones that struck were apparently the main plant workers. It was over 16000 jobs. EVERYONE was let go.

I think now that people are becoming aware of the damage and destruction that GMO food is, that there are going to be a LOT of food companies going under if they don't get the GMO out of the ingredients. The ones that are really obvious will go first. The ones managing to fool people with alternative names for ingredients might be able to survive a tad longer, but a population that is sick of being poisoned for profit is going to have its say.

So first twinkies. Whose next? I'm thinking Hershey's might take a hit when people find out that they are making special kisses in France that are made without GMOs then they use the cheaper poison garbage to feed to the chattel in the US. That one pisses me off. Goodbye Hersheys for all I care.

GMOs are not necessarily "poison" and that's part of the public perception problem. Anti-GMO enthusiasts make claims that don't make sense to the average consumer.

GMO's are in 70% of our food according to reports and have been used in foods for 20 years now. The "GMO poisoning" doesn't make sense to people when they look into it. The turth is probably that many GMO foods are safe - and a few are not as safe.

I wonder about the increase in allergies (did they increase or do people just worry more about it now?), in autism (did it increase or is it only diagnosed more now?), in various cancers, etc. and IF these are linked to GMOs and other diet concerns...or not.

What will happen is GMOs will be labeled - and then the price of non-GMO foods will skyrocket. Not exactly a win for consumers.

The more popular of the Hostess offering will likely be picked up by other companies.

Over 50 countries are already labeling foods that contain gmo's or outright ban them. In not one of those countries have non-gmo food costs skyrocketed or even risen. What happens is farmers stop growing gmo's and companies stop using them.

Well, I doubt autism is created by such things. Autism has been around a LONG time. So WHY is it increasing? The rate of increase is nearly 100% FABRICATION! HERE is the truth!

A LONG time ago, people were born with symptoms that clearly looked autstic, and lived up to the title. EVENTUALLY, someone saw a big enough pattern, and called it a disorder. There were a LOT of limits on it! MANY autistic fell through the cracks because they were outside of it in behaviour or ability. In the 1940s, a person noticed some of these differences, and started researching one aspect. His name was Hans Asperger. Anyway, his research center was destroyed in WWII, and I believe he was also killed. Most research was in German, so it went nowhere really. SO, NOTHING HAPPENED!

Around 1980, people figured autism was too narrow, and created ANOTHER branch that was less limiting. Cases shot up! ******SURPRISE****** Around 1990, Asperger comes back into to picture! The definition is broadened AGAIN! Cases shot up! ******SURPRISE****** Around 2000, this becomes a handle for a money/freedom grab, and people are claiming it for entitlements or to LITERALLY get out of jail. Cases shot up! ******SURPRISE******

People are getting diagnosed even past their 40s, so OF COURSE cases increase!

as for ALZHEIMERS, that has ALSO been around a LONG time, I believe it is frm the caprecious use of things like aluminum. After all, during a war, you cut off the supply line. They KNOW Aluminum is a part of alzheimers, and COMMON, so WHY don't they GET RID OF IT?

And women born to women that took DES may be in pain, unable to have sex, and infertile. And men may have some problems and be practically sterile.

That was pretty much my point Steve. I'm not saying gmo's are the cause of Autism or Alzheimer. What I'm saying is they need to be completely tested before they are released into our food supply (IF they are safe). When you see an increase in certain diseases that goes along with an increase in gmo's in our food you have to start wondering if there is a connection.Doctors are seeing an increase in stomach and bowel problems. At the same time a g.m. corn that has an active bacteria protein (CryAB1) in it that eats holes in the stomachs of whatever insect eats it is in our food system.
Even baby formula has a 70% chance of having untested g.e. soy in it.

Here's some of the tactics Monsanto and a few other big corporations like Pepsi used to defeat prop 37 in Ca. (spending 47 million doing it).
Lied about labeling raising food costs.
Said a professor at Stanford U. was against labeling (Stanford has a policy of being neutral on all propositions and doesn't allow their name or images to be used in campaign ads. Person was a think tank member and former advocate for the tobacco industry)
Ca, Democratic Party endorsed prop. 37 so the opposition mailed out a flyer saying Ca. Democratic opposed it.
Sent out a flyer saying the FDA opposed prop 37 with the FDA logo on it (FDA is not allowed to take sides on propositions)

If that is true, why doesn't Monsanto and their allies prove it and change that perception instead of spending millions and threating to sue states (like Vermont and Conn.) trying to hide their products?
When a company spends millions preventing consumers from knowing they are eating their product then I'd say the claims we are making make sense to the average consumer.

FIRST you say "in food for 20 years", and then you say safe. Which is it? Like >50 years, or not safe? There are different types of poison. DES wasn't really publicly known to be poisonous until like 20 years had passed.

From about 1940 to 1970, DES was given to pregnant women in the mistaken belief it would reduce the risk of pregnancy complications and losses. In 1971, DES was shown to cause a rare vaginal tumor in girls and women who had been exposed to this drug in utero. The United States Food and Drug Administration subsequently withdrew DES from use in pregnant women. Follow-up studies have indicated DES also has the potential to cause a variety of significant adverse medical complications during the lifetimes of those exposed.[1] The United States National Cancer Institute recommends[2] women born to mothers who took DES undergo special medical exams on a regular basis to screen for complications as a result of the drug. Individuals who were exposed to DES during their mothers' pregnancies are commonly referred to as "DES daughters" and "DES sons".

It was on the market for at least 30 YEARS! In the 31st year, shown to affect GIRLS. It is less obvious with boys, but it affects boys ALSO! But MOST would not find the problems for over 20 YEARS!!!!!

Well there are plenty around for you to eat if you don't mind them, Kay. Country after country is announcing Monsanto foods are poisonous and going as far as banning them. That seems a little more credible than what we are told. And yes - GM that is a hybred and not stuffed toxins aren't all that bad, but what they are doing now is deadly. As far as labeling? If there's no problem with the food, why hide it? Whether someone thinks that there's a problem or not doesn't remove our right to know and choose. My diet is now very limited. I won't eat anything with non-organic corn or soy. Period. You want it, eat it. Don't gripe because other people have the right to choose, though.
