Larry Hagman died today. He was the best evil doer that ever graced my TV set!

JR Ewing was such a great role. Of course, I'm from DFW, but I know he riled people up world wide.

RIP Larry...

When I think of Larry Hagman, it's always as Major Tony Nelson. He was one of the rare TV stars that will be remembered for two roles.

Also the contrast between the two roles couldn't have been more stark. It takes true talent to portray both roles so convincingly.

      R.I.P Larry.

That sucks! I loved Hagman and loved Dallas. Even loved the newer version from last summer. RIP. You were an outstanding actor at JR Ewing which no one else could have done.

    Agreed Kurt.

I dream of Genii and Dallas.
Not a feat most tv actors achieve.
    RIP.

(PS:I believe his mother was a famous actress too,but I'm not looking it up. I'm thinking it was Mary Martin that played Peter Pan on stage and in a movie version?).

Good night JR Ewing, you jerk!

Larry Hagman was so good @ being smarmy JR!

Great actor. (liked him in Genie also - when he was handsome!)

I am pretty sure it was Mary Martin (Tinkerbell) ? who was his mother.

    RIP, man.

I saw many episodes of both I Dream of Jeannie and Dallas. He was definitely a memorable character actor. Reading his bio, it said he was an alcoholic who first had sclerosis of the liver and was later diagnosed with liver cancer in 1995. Considering that, he actually lived a long time.

There aren't too many actors who are remembered for two roles, but for two
roles that were so vastly different. Tony Nelson would have spit on JR Ewing.

Now I have to wonder what's going to happen with the new Dallas.

RIP Larry. I always thought you were simply wonderful, whether it was Tony or JR.

I imagine it's already written in...he announced it a year ago, although with a lot of optimism at the time.

Loved the guy. He delivered one of my favorite lines on TV.

As JR, after having his way with this fine woman he told her he'd just gotten the best of her in a business deal. She told him she'd get even if it was the last thing she did. Then he told her what would happen to her if she tried.

She said, "I'm not afraid of you, JR."
And he returned with, "I'm not surprised, darlin'. It takes brains to know when to be scared."

    RIP Larry.

It is always sad when an actor that has entertained audiences for years passes away. I know that as they years go by I start to feel old, especially having remembered them for so long in different roles. Actors have a gift that most people enjoy. (I am an actor myself but not as well known as that of course...mainly stage work) and I know how hard it is to sustain a strong character.

Vale Larry Hagman. May you RIP.

The thing with TV actors is they come into our homes, sometimes on a daily basis. We see them so often we feel we "know" them.

In my case, Barbara Eden (Jeannie) was the first "girl" I found pretty growing up and I had a crush on her when I was young, until Jeannie all girls were "yuck" and Larry Hagman was part of the memory.

Whether we admit it or not, TV does make an impression on us...if it didn't billions have been wasted on TV commercials.

Larry Hagman will be missed; Not all actors can play the good and the evil guy; He did both roles with class.

I also agree; that a part of my childhood is now gone. I truly enjoyed the new series.
Lets see what happens with that! For all you writers in here; you probably all have many ideas of what the writers will do now; as hopefully the show will go on!

A good testimony of his acting career is the # of posts members are making;-)
    God Bless Larry Hagman

What happens will depend on how far along in shooting for the new season was at the time of his death.

If they hadn't started yet (unlikely) the first show will begin with a cemetery scene. You can take it from there.

If they had started and he was in a few episodes, the first one where he's gone, Bobby or somebody will get a call saying JR had passed.

What they WON'T do is write him out in some stupid way (like having him go off to China or something) because that would be disrespectful to the actor and leave the audience with a lack of closure. It would be TERRIBLE public relations.

The show was actually built around the premise that the young actors would eventually take over the main roles as Hagman, Duffy and the rest would all be allowed to retire if and when they wanted to. That way, the show wouldn't be riding on any of the veterans.

But honestly, this show is going to be a shell without JR and I don't think it will survive because it's too early for the younger players to take over

      But, we'll see.
