I've given up on Mozilla Firefox

Why do they allow all the garbage to get attached to their toolbar? I've had enough of Babylon and Ask, especially as the latter makes it very difficult to delete; it's not in the Control Panel programs. I've deleted Firefox and won't be going back.

IE doesn't put a user through this, and I don't understand why Firefox allows it or even why it's legal for Ask to hijack my search function.

They do have a lot of stuff on their toolbar. I don't like all of them but just ignore them.

I think that you can customize it and delete what ever you don't like but I am not 100% sure.

I still like Firefox over Internet Explorer.

Work with what ever you like.

Try Chrome. I switched well over a year ago, maybe two, and haven't regretted it for one second.

I did the same thing after trying to like Firefox for years. Chrome wins hands down.

Lol, I know the feelings. I think now its time for us to make a new browser system which is for us and will be having no tool bar what so ever and completely free from rubbish.

Best of luck with the venture. I am still using firefox, IE and Chrome all add on disabled and well as DNT set out for the work.

    Kind regards,
    Swrajit

Babylon is a redirect virus that you probably got here. It is where I got mine. It is not Firefox as this has infected all my browsers. It is almost impossible to get rid of

I agree. This has nothing to do with ff. I've been using it for years and have never had either of those. Typically people get them when they aren't careful about what they download and open.

It isn't always easy to tell. I know someone who had about a dozen tool bars that he did not install. It was a bit of work cleaning them up for him.

If anything is difficult to get rid of, uninstall ff, download it again and reinstall it. If you use the xmarks add on, it will save all your bookmarks online and you can restore them after. Or you could export them and then import after the reinstall.

The things attached in the toolbar are called plugins and they can be deactivated in the settings. I'm talking about both Babylon and Ask.

Firefox is only as good as its user. You simply do not know how to disable plugins.

I have nothing but what I want on FireFox. You obviously (as most people do) blame others for their own oversight. Firefox is best for web techs who know how to use its features. For casual browsing use Chrome.

Tests have shown that Chrome is faster than FF, but OP definitely shouldn't give up on FF completely

Like others have said, I don't have anything on my toolbar that I don't want. I haven't really had any problems with it.

That being said, I have actually been trying Maxthon Cloud Browser, and I'm very impressed thus far.

It's all about preference; try Chrome if you don't like FF, and try something else if you don't like Chrome. There are plenty of options out there .

  • I started using Pale moon which is a slimmed down, open source version of Firefox. Its fully updated and it has worked real well so far. There's also Chromium which is a slimmed down, open source version of Chrome. Chromium may even be faster than Pale moon but I like that Pale moon is based on Firefox code.

I have switched over to Chrome too. It is slicker. I still use Firefox mostly to check how it loads a site or page. However I never had neither Ask or Babylon - nor do you need to have anything you don't need - just disable them.

Yep, use FF, as the main one, and IE as a way to see if my pages don't look like a dogs-breakfast!

Although recently l updated FF, on my W7 Laptop; not a prob, there, as Norton immediately gave me a patch to fix the imcompatable auto-signup feature!

Then l tried it on my PC with XP, and no matter how many times l updated it wouldn't appear, (Norton patch). Then after trying to use system restore to get over the update to FF, that canned the Norton autosignup feature! And failing, l have given up on updating that PC, (which l hardly use).

Someday Norton should send an update to fix this, but l am beginning to think that maybe they are making a fast buck with Norton or Microsoft. Or intentionally causing this crap with older OS, so they will sell more W7 or W8?

You have to wonder why they would stuff up such a useful Norton App?

Oh, well, just another fun day with Windows and FF!

      Shane

PS, Warning, if you have an old OS, use Norton and haven't updated FF, DON'T, once you have updated, you will never be able to reinstall the previous version. And either have to contact Norton or put up with it!!!

Firefox is a competent browser with a wide range of plugins that, for me, make it more useful than IE, for example. Just be sure not to install new versions automatically on their release. Wait until the bugs have been identified and cleared.

Chrome is essentially spyware, designed to report all your browsing activity back to Google HQ. That's all you need to know.

Yep, good advise, but unfortunately FF will still put pop ups, on your screen until you allow an update!

After the hassles l had with XP and FF, l pulled the plug, so it couldn't update again. I didn't want to waste another hour, updating Norton and restarting, another 9 times! But still get annoying pop up, reminders now and then!

Yep, got FF working with Norton identity safe, and XP; you just have to update Norton 9 times and then go to tools, and then Apps, to activate it!

IE isn't much better, l had serious issues with signing into Hostgator Cpanel, with javascript clogging up the works. But l have FF, back again, so l won't waste any more valuable time with this crap!

There is no particular reason to switch to either. People say Chrome is faster but I've never noticed any substantial difference (and I'm on a 512KB connection). I've heard that Chrome hogs resources, but never experienced that. Chrome starts up faster than Firefox though but the last time I used Chrome, it used to crash much. So, I switched to Firefox.

So, unless you have issues with the browser you are currently using, don't switch.
