Which is a good quality mac text editor?

Also I was looking for an editor, in which I can link to external and internal files. For example when I type a web address in the text editor, it should automatically convert it to a clickable link.

Thanks for the help.

BBEdit is one of the main-stays for Mac users as it's so robust..

BUT, there's a price attached to it...

the good news, is that BBEdit, has a little brother that's FREE and it has all that you'll need to get up and running, as alot of its big brother's features, are very advanced that many people don't even need.

This guy is called - Text Wrangler - it's got rave reviews for being robust AND 'free' too!

There's also Taco (taco is free also), Page Spinner, and skEdit, which also have had good success, but Text Wrangler has sure shot up there in popularity for Mac users since there's no cost and it has so many great features, that Text Edit that's built into your Mac, doesn't have - go check it out!

Text Wrangler is awesome - the best feature has got to be the word wrap, where you can write your ad copy however you want, select all and then choose how many characters you want per line. Saves me so much time.

OP - I'll check and see if it can link to local files.

Edited to add - it will insert paths to local files, I don't see an actual "add link" feature, but then again I never noticed the darn thing can FTP too. If I get a chance later today, I'll see if I can find out more about linking with it.

Pages, which is part of the iWork suite, is an excellent program.

So cool to see the Mac users. Here's a handfull I know about and use:

              Text Wrangler
              Bean
              BBEdit
OpenOffice (free mac version. This requires Xterm to run and is quirkey on my imac)
Scribus (haven't used this one much but doesn't require Xterm)

The last two convert a url into a clickable link automatically.

TextEdit comes with Mac for your text editor.

A free what you see is what you get (wysiwyg) editor most people get is NVU, but I like KompoZer on my Mac.
