and they wonder why i agree with "the more people i meet, the better i like dogs".

people are dying all over the world from starvation, disease, drought, and war, and these concerned citizens are oblivious. (else how can they go on with their life and fly around like nothing-to-worry-about-day).

... but they are worried about this guy's tee shirt?

They are "offended".

(some) people are dumber than rocks.

the more people i meet the better i like rocks.

(although i hated it at the time , versus politically correct, i liked it back in the day where people said stuff like 'it's a free country', 'get over it', 'move on', 'learn to live with it', 'nothing you can do about it', 'you can't change it', and most appropriate here: 'well then just don't look'.)

I haven't seen the movie, so it's not ridiculous If I was to see a shirt like that on a commercial plane. Have you seen every movie that's ever been made (I doubt it)?

He WAS stupid, but they make a lot of shirts like that. Still, terrorists do NOT advertise in such a way! They want it to be GENERAL. THAT is why they are called terrorists.

With all the worry about terrorists on a plane, it's just awfully dumb to wear something like that. However, from what I understand, you can't fix stupid.

In the US they don't worry about your clothes. They're too busy looking at naked e-rays and trying to cop a feel. Besides - our security is usually only high school grads or GEDers. Most of em probably couldn't read it anyway.

As a reminder to the non US citizens. The GED is a test people can take in the US that is to quickly determine if they have the scholastic aptitude of a 12th grader.

It is USUALLY taken by drop outs and those that couldn't go through the school system. for whatever reason, and is not very well accepted. I BELIEVE you can take it multiple times, etc....

As for not being able to read, I have heard of ringers taking the GED, and believe it is multiple choice.

It IS kind of interesting. SO MANY BAD students fell through the cracks that MOST, if not all, states now test HIGH SCHOOL students to see if THEY make the cut. But that test is NOT the GED.

The story of the Pet Rock was in a book on marketing I read long ago. The guy who came up with the idea was a retired Adman from Los Altos, Ca. - What seemed the ultimate funny insult and irony to American production and outsourcing, was that he didn't even use American rocks!

He actually got the rocks from Mexico!

The "naked xray" machines are gone - seems in spite of claims to the contrary, the company can't make them a bit more modest. Last week it was announced the program is canceled and scanners will be removed.

Cost of this "test" of consumer patience? $40,000,000.

On topic - when you think about it...why does a fully grown man want to run around advertising he favors movies like "Princess Bride?".

OK, OBVIOUSLY you either haven't been there, haven't been observant, and didn't read the post I made here a long time ago. Let me tell you the way it worked, as a compromise LONG ago "for privacy". The people in the airport do NOT check to see if you have anything using the xray. HERE is what happens.....

1. They have you wait.
2. They call you up, and you stand in the stupid machine a certain way.
3. You exit, and they ask you to wait.
4. They wait for a person from some OTHER place to look it over and tell them through their headset that you are clean.
5. THEN they tell you you can go!

If it weren't invasive, they would have it out there for people to see and be quicker about the whole thing.

Just TODAY, they announced a NEW gadget they may use called the T-RAY! It does the same sort of thing.

I concede that the guy was not a fashion-plate and maybe it was bad taste but I wouldn't even go so far as to say bad judgement because to me the shirt and the text just does not equate to being anything associated with airplane terrorist hysteria.

I mean if it mentioned 'check my heel i may have a mini-bomb' or pictures of Al Quaida (remember the great Che Guevera Tee Shirts)? - or pictures of the twin towers being attacked - you know, something overtly controversial (and offensive).

I didn't see the movie or ever hear of it but it sounds harmless enough.

... and ok so not everybody saw the movie and so then that makes it really awful that he was so dumb to wear that shirt.

give me a break.

According to most posters,I am an idiot,but that is ok with me.
Yukon,one does not have to see every movie to understand a joke.Many famous movie lines get known without having to see a movie.
That movie is considered by many to be a classic.
And as another pointed out,there is no "terrorist" meaning in that shirt.
I may stand alone,byt that is ok.

How are you really different from the others? Most are saying this guy was an idiot because the others were idiots. In short, nothing is INHERENTLY wrong with the shirt. The problem is in the minds of the others. SAD but true!

I've never seen or heard of the film so if I saw him wearing that t-shirt it would make me wonder what it meant. But clearly the other passengers had no need to worry because he obviously isn't a terrorist or a psychopath because anybody can spot them a mile off can't they?

I also think it was stupid waring that shirt in a commercial flight. Out in the street, maybe. It could have cause a laugh or two.

I have seen some NEAT bumper stickers. NOT really offensive, or threatening. I would LOVE to get one. You know why I don't? I KNOW that a lot of people are lied to and they would trash my car if I had such a bumper sticker. I don't wear such tshirts for the SAME reason. Well, there is some stuff I would LOVE to say here, etc... I won't because I will get banned. When I went to that gun store, the guy said he won't say the truth because he could get FIRED! LIKEWISE, you NEVER want to have anything that says, or say, ANYTHING like this at the airport. Following protocol, in the US, he would be delayed in security, and likely even forbidden to fly.

Ever see "meet the parents"? It might as well be a DOCUMENTARY! The protagonist said BOMB, and ended up getting ARRESTED!

Exactly, there's a time & place for everything, a shirt like this guy was wearing isn't appropriate in an airport/airplane.

The reason people get thrown off planes like this guy did is they don't use common sense, or they think something is funny (joke). What might be a joke to some people isn't very funny to others. I've heard of this movie title but I haven't seen the movie & haven't ever heard the phrase this guy had on his t-shirt.

Goes to show you can't force people to have common sense, but an airline business can force them off a plane, adios muchachos (lol) .

I agree 100%.
There are a lot of things I would love to be able to do but can't because like you said,I would get banned if I completely spoke my mind here,but this is not MY place,so I try to say as much as I can without crossing the line.I try to respect the rules.
Or if I put up certain signs in my yard or bumper stickers on my car,I have no doubt it would be trashed overnight.
But that just proves to me my point about the lack of common sense on the whole of the public,certainly not on one individual,meaning me,or you,or the person on the plane.
As far as your Meet The Parents example, I think you know Steve that every time you or me or anyone types those crertain words that it is sent somewhere to be determined what context it is being used in.
Since I admit I both know and love the running joke from The Princess Bride,which IS a classic in my opinion,I own 3 dvd copies of it, I cxan't say if without having seen it if I would equate the shirt with terrorism,but I highly doubt it.
As far as this Yukon:

I don't know where you live,but we are suppose to still have first amendment rights in this country,so maybe the airline can force him off,but I hope to hell he sues their ass off. I would. I moved to indiana, but I am still in the "US". I moved to simplify travel, get a nice home, improv the area, etc... A year after I moved here, CA sent me a letter saying that I was to report for jury duty OR ELSE! They didn't care if I lost my job or went broke! Luckily, having left, I told them that what they were asking was TOTALLY unreasonable, and that they no longer had any jurisdiction. I think I will put "US" in quotes now because they have seriously talked about getting rid of EVERYTHING that I was told the US was, though they both may take the same geographical area. BTW Indiana is one of only NINE states now with an AAA rating! The budget is balanced, as required by the indiana constitution. The schools are doing better, though they were OK before, and they are now going to offer free preschool for the poor. And the gun I bought is 17+1, more than the 10 limit in CA! The gun even came with 3 magazines, or 51+1! So I am glad I left.

Regarding the airlines, in most of 2001 and earlier, it was the AIRLINE that had way too much power. SINCE then it has been the TSA, DHS, and Airline. SOME rules would make sense if they meant to be only more observant, but they DON'T. Others? WOW!

Like a bill in front of congress now SPECIFICALLY says that government officials are EXEMPTED! The federalist papers clearly state that that would mean CITIZENS are exempted ALSO then, but the bill is to specifically INCLUDE them.

Seriously, it is like this is some crazy nightmare.
