    "Old Hag"???

I don't know what you are trying to say here or if you think that was funny but I think you are a lot out of order.

Yes, 'old hag' is a bit mean -spirited. Let's put our comments on the other thread about the extremely talented Susan Boyle...

She is a "lady" and deserves respect. Would you like someone referring to your mother or grandmother as an "old hag"? Would like someone referring to you as a "young punk? Just some food for thought. I agree with artwebster....

Hmm.... my point is don't judge a book by its cover.
Thats what the judges felt when she first appeared.

thats why it was in quotation marks.

    Joel,

Inverted commas are to high-light a piece of text as being quoted from else where.

These judges have seen it all and can react any way they please but that does not give you the right to be offensive in what is, after all, a public forum.

As for judging a book by its cover - I read your subject line and thought I was in for a chuckle.

A couple of years ago, Paul Potts was similarly rubbished for being cosmetically challenged .... until he sang everyone else off the show
and off the screen. He became known as Pavapotti and is now a quite wealthy opera singer.

In my view, Susan has an awesome voice and a raw talent equal to or better than others who depend on surgery, glitz, packaging plus considerable chunks of training and electronic processing to overcome
      intrinsic limitations of talent.

To blow millions of people away with the first word of a well-known and loved song from Les Miserables takes some doing .... and that lady did it

Beautiful voice and it was nice seeing her level of confidence even going in - she believed in herself.

However, I predict next time we see her she will be blinged, bleached, plucked, tucked and wear low rise jeans and stilettos.

...just joking - but with Pottsi he had a makeover after he won and it made a big difference in his confidence level -

They were kind of opposites in that respect because he didn't have confidence going in.

While I may not agree with his term old hag, I certainly understand his usage.
It was about perception, not reality.
You weren't out of order at all.

wow yeah she was mad, she did amaze everyone though didn't she?! Does anyone else agree that maybe the 'madness' was an act? If it was, it sure worked

No, no act. I think she's the real deal. It appears to me to be a case of a saucy wench trapped in a frumpy housewife's body...I believe she may have a different idea of herself than what others see when they look at her, and there's nothing wrong with that. Many people do that.

I've actually video taped myself just kicking around the house, to see what everyone else sees, and believe me, it gave me something to think about because I didn't look like the mental image I have in my head. It was like watching someone I didn't know! Once we realize what everyone else sees, we can begin to 'fit into the mold', so to speak, take advantage of it to help us do a better job of succeeding in life.

But what does the future hold for her now? She has to win the competition, but even if she doesn't, her life is going to change. She'll need to try really hard to not let this change her because she may have no idea what she's in for, the crowds, the publicity, the appearances, the contracts, those who become jealous of her success, the list goes on. There are a lot of potholes in the road ahead and I hope someone let's her know what to watch out for.

I love that version of 'Cry Me A River', by the way. Very, very good. The gods must be cruel. How else to explain the voice of an angel in an ordinary-looking person like that? Amazing.

Now, that just isn't nice. That's what gets me. Why are people so quick to judge someone by their appearance? Why would ones looks make them sing better or worse?

Good job of making yourself look like a fool, Tim! You try to come here and make us believe you are all high-minded, that you wouldn't judge a book by it's cover, when you prove by your own words that you are nothing but a self-deluded hypocrite!

The only reason you posted the above post was in retaliation to my post in your 'Susan Boyle sings These Lips' thread, where you posted a video that deliberately made fun of Susan Boyle and thought it was hilarious.

I wrote, "BOO! HISS!", and believe me, I meant it. That video is cruel and belittling, just exactly what one could expect from a high school bully, and I'm not the only one who replied in your thread that felt that way.

Yet you wrote, "Oh come on folks. That's funny and nothing about it is "cruel". Geesh."

Every person in that Britain's Got Talent audience seen her walk on stage and thought to themselves, yeah, right! But Susan stood up and proved every one of them wrong.

Quite frankly, I must say she's got more balls than you do.
